Heard about this story on the radio this morning...apparently there are a lot of people angry at this man...what do you think?
The way the story was told on the radio made it seem like he hit her after she bit him...when you watch the video he starts hitting her to get her to stop biting him! The woman was still latched on! I may be in the minority, but I don't blame him...I probably would have hit her too.

Oh my! I would have hit her, too! I don't think he should have punched her in the head, maybe something more open handed, or tried to pull her head off his arm?

@mrbee: Not at all, honestly that's why I cringed at the closed fist hits..if it were man v man or woman v woman I wouldn't have thought twice. Ohhh, double standards, you kill me.

She was BITING him. I would have been smacking her until she let me go. I'm sure my DH would also do the same. It doesn't matter that she's a woman, SHE WAS BITING HIM. She accuses him of "assaulting" her but SHE assaulted HIM when she BIT HIM. He was defending himself. Further she had already assaulted the woman she tried to steal from by snatching her personal property.
Also if he had let her go, she would have just ran. Male or female, she's a criminal and should be treated no differently. I'm sure nobody would be upset about how she was held down and hit if she had been a man.

@mrbee: I don't think so. If the purse snatcher was a man the other guy would be getting praised for stopping him and beating him up IMO.

Yea... no. She bit him so she got hit. I'm not sure if it was the BEST idea (he maybe could have pulled her hair instead?) but in the moment I don't really think he did anything wrong.

She deserved it. Why would people think he should just sit there and let her bite him? I would've punched her, too...so would DH.

good on him. there is no way this would even have made the news if the purse snatcher had been male.

Omgosh! I can't believe they arrested him!
This makes me think of when someone breaks into a persons home & then that persons injures the assailant & then assailant sues.
She is the criminal here!

I've been bitten a few times while restraining individuals & have never punched, smacked, or hit anyone. There are better ways to deal with that. Applying downward pressure to the lower jaw as you push up on the forehead is the most effective way to get out of it. I don't blame him for doing what he did. If the sexes were reversed this wouldn't be an issue.
