At this point I do about 40/60 breastmilk/formula. My pediatrician recommends using tap water for the formula - its a lot safer than bottled water (and cheaper). Although I use bottled water when we are out and about because its easier.

We've been supplementing a few ounces a day for a few months, and DH always uses bottled water to make it. Don't think it's necessarily required, but it makes me happier for some reason.

We use filtered water from the fridge.

We use water from the fridge door, it is filtered so I think it is ok.

I think it depends on the area? In KC it's okay for us to use the tap water, but it wasn't okay for my sister to use it in San Diego.

We use tap that has been run through our Brita.

@MrsCB: I have zero scientific evidence to support this, but it's my understanding that bottled water sits in hot warehouses and trucks when being transported. Heat and plastic make me feel a bit uneasy.

@2PeasinaPod: Ah. Yes, I've heard to not let water in plastic bottles get hot. But orange marks from our water is what makes me feel uneasy :-/.

I would use filtered water (we have an Aquarain). I definitely wouldn't use nursery water.

Citing a major 2006 review of fluoride safety by the National Academy of Sciences, the ADA advised parents and caregivers on November 9th of this year, to not give infants fluoridated water in their formula or food. According to the ADA, consumption of fluoridated water puts a baby at high risk for dental fluorosis (a defect of teeth that causes staining and sometimes corrosion of the enamel.) The ADA's statement followed an October 14th decision from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that bottled waters with added fluoride cannot claim to reduce the risk of cavities for infants.

Where I live, tap water is treated with fluoride and chlorinated, so we used bottled.

Full disclosure though, when our son was small we lived abroad and we used the tap water as it was purified with ozone, not chlorine.

We use fridge water as well.

Tap water. Baby benefits from all the minerals and flouride. No need to filter all that stuff out. Municipal water is by and large terrific. You should get a summary of your water's content once a year in a mailer or you can go on your local municipal website for details.

As a nanny I used bottled with one, and later tap with another until they got a fridge with filtered water and they used that. I wouldn't use tap water, but I don't feel comfortable with flouride since it's poisonous.

When LO was on formula we used tap water. I'm from the bay area and our tap is terrific but I've visited places where I couldn't stomach the tap water (ie. Phoenix).

We checked our water table first to makesureit was good but we used tap water the entire time. She still drinks tap water, as do I.

@Smurfette: you can use it but it's ok to use tap as well !

if you are a homeowner, our local home depot will analyze your water for free...

@wheres_c: Did you actually get someone to do that? I filled out an online form a long time ago, and never heard anything. We had been thinking about getting a whole house filter because our water leaves orange marks everywhere and weren't sure what to buy.

I read our water report every quarter and I know they say it's fine. But I'm still skeeved out by it. I can't imagine giving it (unfiltered) to the baby.
