I never read this trilogy when it first came out. But I'm out of books to read so I decided to see what all the hype is about.
Oh my. *fans self*
Only 1/3 through book 1.
Am I the only one that hasn't read this?

I haven't read them and don't plan to. A friend of mine called it mom porn.

I read them! I was shocked that I actually (mostly) enjoyed them

I started reading the first one but only got about 3/4 of the way through it. I have birthing books to read these days!

I tried to read the first one and it made me cry lol - I felt like I was reading about an abusive relationship. urgh. couldnt finish it and didnt read the other two

Ugh never. It's just Twilight with kinky sex. Literally, it was a fanfic for Twilight originally and then the author swapped out the names of Bella and Edward and published it. I guess if you liked Twilight, you'd probably like this too.

Nope and probably won't. There's too many good books on my must read list right now!

Read it. It's boring after the initial shock. Cheesy. Horrible writing. Etc.
Good, quick read though!

I did. I liked it, but more for the story. To be honest, after a while the sexy stuff started to become real "whatev" for me, and I started to skim past those parts!

I haven't read it and have no interest in them. Those types of books don't really interest me. I don't understand why these got all this hype.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: @mrsjyw: I thought it was just me!! I mentioned this to a couple of friends and they were like "what?! I skipped the story to get to the sex parts...!"

Nope- no interest. From the excerpts I've read online, I can't believe so many people have actually read them- the writing is awful, even the writing about the sex stuff.

I read the first one, but couldn't read the rest. Like @bunnymommy: it was too abusive for me to get into. It really does a horrible job depicting what S&M relationships are actually like and that really bothered me. Plus the main character was annoying.
apricot / 347 posts
@Adira: THIS. It irritated me so much that it was hailed by some people as a way to kind of make S&M mainstream and acceptable, when it didn't really seem to be about a healthy consensual S&M sexual relationship - it was about a damaged controlling and abusive man and an abused woman. eh. not for me at all.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@bunnymommy: It probably doesn't help that I've actually read some GOOD S&M books, so reading this was just horrifying to me! And I HATE to think that people think that this is what S&M relationships look like!!! So glad I'm not the only one who feels this way!
apricot / 347 posts
@Adira: totally. I think it's sad because 'fetish' stuff like S&M gets such a bad rap already and is so stigmatised that it really makes it difficult for people to engage in fulfilling sexual relationships when they're into something less mainstream (when it is hard enough already when you're just into 'normal' sex!).. so a huge hyped book gets an opportunity to say, some people enjoy *x* and it can be healthy and instead it becomes about him enjoying S&M b/c of his mommy issues. what a waste!

Though I do appreciate it Fifty Shades of Grey made some of those other books more mainstream and people were able to read them with less embarrassment!
If you liked Fifty Shades, you might enjoy books by Cherise Sinclair (like Club Shadowlands)!

I read them and liked them but I can take these types of easy reads with a grain of salt. I ended up skipping over a few sex scenes to get through the story.
It's pretty much exactly like Twilight, which I read and enjoyed as an easy read too.

I haven't read them. My sisters have, and they once read a scene aloud to me that made me laugh.

@illumina: yep, it was shockingly intriguing in the first book, but then for 2,3 I skipped over to read the storyline parts! all in all, i was just digging for the love story!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: Me too! The story got interesting the farther I got into it and I started skipping the sex scenes. I was like "Ugh! You're having sex AGAIN?"
It was an okay read. Definitely not the mos thought provoking book but it was an easy quick and entertaining read.

I haven't read any of the books and don't plan to. I read a lot and am kind of a book snob. There are way too many good books in the world for me to pick up that series!

I read the first two, couldn't make myself read the third. The horrible writing made me so mad as I was reading it, did they not use an editor? I'm not an English language expert nor do I claim to be, but typos and incorrect use of words in books drives me bonkers!

You should read The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski
Much better writing

i got through about halfway of the first one and just felt uncomfortable and weird. definitely NOT what i thought it was going to be about!
