@As Time Goes By: I read somewhere that 81% on couples will get pregnant in 6 months. And 85% will get pregnant in 12 months. To me, that seems like your chances drop significantly after 6 months, but I don't know how reliable that day is.

@KelLeeLeee: I think those odds are also for women in their 20s. That gives me even less hope.

    @KelLeeLeee: that's great!

@yellowbird: haha the past couple cycles it has felt so long but it's been busy! I hope yours speeds up too!

@As Time Goes By: @KelLeeLeee: I was also thinking about this very thing over the past few days. My girlfriends all think I am NUTS for using an ovulation monitor, checking CM, etc...none of them went to these lengths and still conveived in the first few months of trying (4 months or less). They have responses like, "if you just have sex around day 14, you should be fine...that's when everyone ovulates, right?" Ha! Most were blown away when I mentioned that I ovulate around day 23 and that a short luteal phase may cause me some problems when concieving. None of those issues even occurred to them! Ugh...I feel a little jealous that most of my friends can just "wing it" when it comes to getting pregnant. What is it they are doing to get pregnant so quickly?!

Sorry for my rant...I am sure most of you girls have felt this way at one time or another.

@KelLeeLeee: everywhere has different numbers but thebump refers to a study of couples having sex when fertile (so I'm assuming comparable to temping and OPK use) that 81% were pregnant at 6 months and 92% at 12 months..

@Bigskygirl: I have 12 nieces and nephews (and only 2 siblings). I've DEFINITELY thought this!

After my MC my SIL asked if we were going to try again. I said I wasn't sure if we were going to exactly "try" since we weren't when I got pregnant before, but we weren't going to prevent by any means. She responded with "Yeah. I never really understood why some women put so much effort into conceiving"

I don't fault her for saying that, I mean, she looks at my brother a certain way and she's pregnant again, but man. what I wouldn't give to not understand why women do everything I'm now doing!

@MaryM: great point about age! What I posted did not mention the age of women in the study.

@MaryM: I posted on your other thread about my sister letting me know she's pregnant again... Second surprise for her! She doesn't know we're trying, but she made a comment about when I get pregnant I should try to be due in certain months... as if it is that easy for everyone. She didn't mean any harm by it, but I wish it was that easy!

@Bigskygirl: I've been very quiet about us starting to TTC. A part of me wishes I would open up to friends about it, but I'm scared that if they tell me how they all got pregnant easily it will hurt more than help

  10. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@As Time Goes By: I'm the same. I figure sharing opens me up for more of the unwanted advice like "Just relax and it will happen!" or "I know a person that got pregnant as soon as they stopped trying" or whatever.

every time i hear about someone who got pregnant on their first cycle without much trying (my best friend just told us last week she's pg!) my heart hurts a little bit... this will be my first cycle ever trying but i'm sooooo scared and can't even imagine what some of you ladies go through. i am anxious already about negative tests and TWWs and i haven't even started! but whenever i hear about someone who instantly got pg i'm like well.... statistically, there go my chances of an easy time.

  12. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

I also fear if people knew we were trying, my MIL would be even WORSE at poking us about giving her grandbabies soon.

  13. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@loki: Well, if you're looking at the odds that way, for each of us that's having a difficult time, your chances of it not being so hard increase, right?

  14. As Time Goes By

    apricot / 346 posts

@loki: I cracked up at "i'm like well.... statistically, there go my chances of an easy time." I totally get that. I may have had similar thoughts... If all of these people around me have relatively quickly gotten pregnant, am I going to be the 1 in 10 who struggles?

Ugh all these crazy thoughts I'm sure don't help, but I won't tell anyone to relax and not think about it!

  15. loki

    pear / 1787 posts

@MaryM: i don't like that either i just wish EVERYONE got pg their first cycle! hopefully this is your month.

@MaryM: my sister getting pregnant made the grand baby talk intensify so badly because all of a sudden we all needed to provide grand babies so they are close in age!?!

  17. MaryM

    pomelo / 5129 posts

@As Time Goes By: On my side there's so many kids it doesn't really matter if I have any or not.

But on DH's side, it's like we're the last hope. His sister is a cop so she doesn't want to have kids because of the risk of her job. And his brother can't keep a girl because he has issues with being faithful. (so technically he could have kids, we just probably wouldn't know about them!)

@MaryM: I was in the same situation before our first. Luckily now that we have one everybody's off our case.

I think AF is finally showing up so unless I O early, i'll be rolling over August. Glad to be getting started on this cycle!

@As Time Goes By: that sucks about your sister I'm really open about it with my friends, at first I regretted it because I thought I would get pregnant right away, but now I have people to bitch to lol.

@loki: I was nervous before my first month too. But there's no set limit or people who can get pregnant in a given month.

Negative today, so I'm moving myself to the 14th when AF is due, but it's not looking so good. Beginning to feel like I'll never see a BFP.

@travellingbee: Sorry to hear you're out, but glad you are feeling confident for the next cycle!

@KelLeeLeee: I'm sorry I got a negative on a digital yesterday and my period is due either today or tomorrow. So, not looking good for me either. Going with the thought that I'm still in until AF, but losing hope. My fingers are crossed for both of us, though.

Thinking of all of you! Sorry to those who got BFN or AF and come on BFPs to those in waiting. One reason I lived the 6+ thread is because it can be very hard to watch people come and go and not have your own BFP. I can't think of ONE person though that was TTC when I or pregnant with my son and doesn't now have a baby. The journey might not have been easy but the vast majority of you will get there. HUGS!

@KelLeeLeee: Boo. Hope it is just too early.

@meredithNYC: @Annette: Fingers crossed for you ladies!

I'm at I think 10dpo (?..it's been 11 days since + opk) and getting nervous now!

@googly-eyes: I would've tested by now if I were you I really have to work on my patience! My poas day is 11dpo. Not sure I'll make it that long.

Cautiously joining in... A little late I know!

Cycle day: 17, I think. Everything has been so wonky- I had my Nexplanon taken out in May.

    Cycle #: 1

    Ovulation & POAS dates: I *think* I o'd 7/9. I'll POAS 7/22.

    Baby #: 3

Your game plan this month: It's our first month TTC so we were very laid back.

Good news: I'm pretty sure I ovulated this month! I was worried because I just stopped birth control 2 months ago and hadn't temped before. Below is a screen shot of my chart… I'm confused because FF says I O'd on CD17, but I felt symptoms (cramping, softened cervix) on CD18. I didn't get EWCM this month, but lots of watery CM. I guess ultimately it doesn't matter THAT much which day I O'd, on, but I'm just curious what your thoughts are. Either way, I think we timed BD it pretty well!

  36. googly-eyes

    GOLD / pomelo / 5737 posts

@yellowbird: I don't blame you.. I have one cheapo test from walmart and one frer so I'm trying to wait! @MrsMccarthy: I think with dd the test was positive at ~12 dpo (not a squinter) so maybe 11 days would be long enough? That'd be tomorrow. We'll see how patient I'm feeling.

@NavyRN2012: Ok forgive me if I'm totally wrong but I think your first is a '12 baby like mine? Amazing that you are going for a third! Welcome!

@renee: I don't chart so I don't want to give out any advice but yay for good timing!
