I am starting to think about E's first birthday party! It's about four months away but once the holidays come and go there will be not much time left to plan. I'm pretty simple when it comes to parties, so don't want to go overboard or spend hundreds on decorations. For A's first birthday we did a rainbow color theme, very simple.
What was your LO's first birthday party theme? Did you go all out or keep it simple?

we kept it simple. Ours was a Carousel theme. We had cupcakes with carousel horses, carousel themed invitations. We did a platter of sandwiches, platter of fruit, water, soda and juice boxes. We had it at a park so venue was free we just had to snag a picnic table.

We used a color scheme, I made "dol towers" for his 100 day and wanted to reuse them, so it was all light blue/ltgreen/yellow/etc.
We had it at home in our basement and had about 30/40 guests? Both grandmas cooked for us and that made is SO easy. I just did the favor bags, decor, invites. 
And I still ran around like a chicken w its head cut off the day of the party.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!
I did a bunch of decorations but food was simple. I made all the decorations myself. We had about 40 people over (family).

We did stripes and polka dots in green, blue and orange. Very easy to find good (and cheap!) decorations from Oriental Trading!

W's party had a slight seaside/beach theme. Her middle name is Capri so it was a spin off that....the color turquoise, black and white stripes, gold glitter, sea shells...
M's party is in 3 weeks and I am doing a hot air balloon theme.

Ours was winter wONEderland...basically a snow theme with arctic animals. If you go that route, I have a ton of stuff I could send you! I wouldn't say I went ALL out, but I didn't keep it simple either. I made most of the decor myself, so I didn't spend a ton, but I put in a lot of effort. Too bad her original party got completely snowed out! I was so bummed. A handful of people came to a "re-do" the following weekend. I'm going to be careful about how much time I spend on future parties and/or have a "snow date" in place from the beginning.

I went all out but did a color theme: pink and turquoise. Color is MUCH easier than an actual "theme" while still giving me a central concept to work around

Of course like with everything else baby, I have already thought about this. The 1st bday party will likely coincide with a baptism. I'm considering a pool party where everyone will change out of church gear and the color scheme will be dictated by the baby's sex. Or a restaurant party, but even then the decor will follow the restaurant color and baby's sex.
In terms of decor pinwheels, paper flowers, pom poms make fun centerpieces.
Balloons, comfy party hats and kid-photo inspired garlands are super fun.

We did a safari theme. We made paper bunting, made some balloon trees out of green balloons and a cardboard trunk and we had an animal print cake made

DD's first birthday is 3 months from today! Since she was born around valentines day, we are doing a sweetheart theme with pink/red, lace doilies (spelling?), hearts, conversation hearts, etc. I can't wait!

Sadie's party was a love bug theme. Her birthday is a few days before Valentine's and we call her Bug/Buggie. Lady bugs + pink, red, and gold!

DD had an UP! themed 1st birthday... lots of balloons and colors made it pretty easy to pull together.
DS just had a color theme - sky blue, orange, and yellow.

For DS1, we did Mickey Mouse. DS2's birthday is in six months and I've already thought about it. I'm planning a baseball theme for him.

The theme was easy to pick - LO's favorite book is about a giraffe and she just adores them so we went with a giraffe/jungle animal theme. I found a lot of decorations and plates/napkins on clearance at a local party store (score!). From Amazon I got giraffe invitations/thank you cards, a giraffe tablecloth and another jungle animal tablecloth, plus additional giraffe print plates/napkins. I put giraffe print ribbon on the edges of the tiered dessert stand and filled it with an appetizer cut into pieces put in jungle cupcake wrappers which was cute. The rest of the food was served in regular dishes/trays. We also got a giraffe balloon creature made by the party store that morning.

We did a vintage theme. Pink, aqua and roses with lace and burlap. It was more of a color scheme thing that an outright theme. We did it at home and it was pretty simple.

Ladybugs and it was simple.
I made cookies and the cake.
I had red and black twizzlers and red and black plastic silverware. Red tablecloths with little black circles I cut out with a circle cutter on the tablecloths.

We did a bird theme for DD's first birthday. Her middle name is Wren and she loves birds, so we did a jewel toned bird-day.

We did a "You are My Sunshine" party. We went so low key. For the theme, I found some free printables online of lyrics to the song and just decorated with yellow balloons and streamers. And we got a cake from a local bakery with a sun on it. Easy peasy.

We did sprinkles & sparkles/confetti. Sprinkle cake and clear balloons with confetti and a matching tissue paper garland. Gold sequins in the flower vases, gold glitter. We served chili with toppings to sprinkle on and had a caramel apple bar with toppings..

We don't know how to do simple. It will be simply over the top if that counts? It will be a royalty theme and I'm so excited!!!
