I think wearing is so much easier. How long is your trip? I would probably bring a backpack (as a diaper bag, packed with everything else i could need) and a small roller bag if it was just a couple days (cuz i could just do laundry at my parents' house). You get to board early with a baby, so you shouldn't have too many problems getting overhead luggage space.

Sounds like you're set up pretty well! Definitely wear at the airport, makes it easier to haul bags. Bring a paci if your baby takes one, and several changes of clothes. I liked using sleepers so you don't have to worry about loosing socks or finding parts to an outfit. Ask the flight attendant if there is an empty seat you can sit next to. We flew to S America when DS was 4mo and it wasn't too bad.

@ChiCalGoBee: does your baby like being worn and are you comfortable with it? If the answer to both is yes, then I say wear him! C loved being in her carrier when we flew at that age and we ended up using the stroller to put other bags in, but it was both of us there. But I wouldn't use the airport as a place to see if you like babywearing.

Make sure your carryon fits under the seat in front of you. Pack a smaller bag with just changing essentials (wipes, pad, couple of diapers) and stick it in the seat back so you don't have to bring the whole diaper bag to the bathroom for changes. (I'm fancy and use a gallon zip lock).

Like others I liked dressing her in a zippered footed sleeper for flying.

I agree with all of the advice to babywear! And to bring a smaller diaper clutch so you don't have to haul your whole diaper bag around to change him. Bring a a few toys/teethers on the plane too and use toy straps if you have them (tie to your carrier, etc). My LO also LOVES that crinkley-sparkley wrapping tissue stuff and it's super easy to pack/cheap if you lose it. LO is BF but I found it easier to give a bottle on the plane than BF because he was too distracted to BF.

@ChiCalGoBee: I brought pumped milk just in case and never used it. She loved nursing so I never bothered with the bottles.

I nursed DD (6 months old) when we were taking off and had a bottle for her when we started the descent. She napped on both flights in between feedings - worked great for me! I'm glad I had the bottle because she loves her bottles and my flight was only 2 hours so I didn't know if she would get enough milk if I nursed her again. DH wore her in the airport for the first flight and then we bought a cheapie umbrella stroller for the flight home. She loved being able to look around at all the action going on so I preferred using the stroller. I also used a book bag instead of her regular diaper bag and liked the convenience of that. I was so nervous to fly with her but she did really great! The noise on the planes seemed to soothe her.

This is all great advice- definitely wear if you can, and I agree about bringing some milk just in case. Just let security know what it is and they will use a special wand for it.

I'll add (didn't see above?) to nurse during takeoff/landing and whenever you feel your ears pop. That's what makes most babies sad on flights.

I'd also maybe bring a small blanket? It can get cold and the airline blankets aren't necessarily the cleanest.
