Well, I had my first RE appointment today. He thinks it's most likely diminished ovarian reserve. He said based on my FSH test that I had in November (8.58), DOR is probably the cause of our infertility.
He ran a couple blood tests today (AMH and progesterone) and will be doing more tests at the beginning of next cycle (which is about 2 weeks away), such as an antral follicle count ultrasound and Day 3 E2 and FSH tests. He said after that, he will possibly want to try a Clomid Challenge Test, depending on what my blood work tells us.
He also went over the fact that endometriosis is a strong possibility because of the debilitating cramps I've had since I was a teen. He said a laparoscopy might be required, but we'll wait on the other testing to rule everything else out first.
We will most likely have to do IUI with injectable medications, which will deplete our insurance budget ($3,000 per calendar year). If that doesn't work after a few rounds, we'll need to move onto IVF, but we can't afford yet, so we'll see.
I don't know how I feel. I'm not all that upset... I guess because I'm finally getting real answers. He said trying on our own with "unexplained infertility" without any intervention is probably only about a 1% chance per cycle. That's upsetting to hear. But, I do remain hopeful. He didn't say anything like "you'll never be able to get pregnant" or "you'll need to use donor egg" ... so, that's good!
Sorry for the long post. You girls are really the only people who TRULY understand this process. Even my hubby doesn't quite "GET IT."
