The plug to my flat iron has decided to die. Awesome. So, recommendations on brands to buy or avoid? My wallet is crying already. These things aren't cheap!!

I had a Chi that lasted me seven years.
It died Wednesday night.
Girl, I feel your pain.

I have a Sedu and really like it! It was a bit over $100, but I've had it for 6 years and it's still going strong!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @MrsH: My Chi was what died. I think it was 4 years old? I just don't like how it didn't have a temperature adjustment.

I have a croc - it does have a temperature adjustment and you can use it on damp hair. No complaints so far. I've had it about 3 years.

I have a cheapo remington wet-2-straight and the last one lasted me like 7 years, now I'm on the second generation.

I have this one. It's a Solia.
This is my second one of the same flat iron. My first lasted I think 6-7 years of daily use. It wasn't even broken, it was just really worn out. Highly recommend it!

I love Chi flat irons. My first died after 3-4 years but I use it almost every day so I'm not surprised. They work so well I figure shelling out the money every 3-4 years isn't horrible.

I have a Sedu. I had one for 6 years before it died, then I got another one and it's on its 3rd year. Love it!

Chi's never lasted very long for me. My hair stylists uses a GHD and I bought one from her. Love it!

I love my Amika. It doesnt leave my hair as dry as Chi did. Its about 5 years old, I think. Id recommend it!

@whenoceansrise: One of my good friends is a hair dresser and she recommended GHD too but it's SUPER expensive! I should ask if she gets a discount anywhere...

@LindsayInNY: You should ask her! Mine let me buy it from her at her cost instead of retail!

I have a friend with really curly hair that swears by her GHD, but that is too much dough for me. I love me Sedu. It works like a champ.

@LindsayInNY: I have the remington one and it is just as good as the chi IMO. Allure magazine voted it best flat iron for several years running. It is only $50. The temp adjustment Is what persuaded me too.

TJ Maxx always has high quality brand straighteners. Mine is biosilk and I got it on clearance for $15. They always have Chi there, too. Marshalls, too!

I have the 1 inch Hai flat iron. Bought it for $60 on Amazon over 6 years ago and no problems so far. You're able to adjust the temperature too

I have a t3 and it was pretty pricey-it's a wet to dry but I mainly use it on dry only. It's still going at six years old.

@LindsayInNY: I splurged on a ghd a while back and it really is great.
It doesn't have the heat adjustment though (at least the one I have doesn't). If you don't want to she'll that much I would second the Remington recommendation. I had it before the ghd and it did a really great job.

@matador84: I was considering a T3... My hair dresser friend said it was her second recommendation behind GHD.
