Absolutely. DD1 got it in Oct. DD2 will get it next month at her 6 month appt since she'll finally be old enough. DH and I both get it thru work too.

I didn't get flu shots for my son until he was enrolled in daycare and it was requried...he began when he turned 2 and I don't think we got them that winter. I believe we got them for the first time when he was about to turn 3.

Got the 4 year old's at his well visit, and I just made the appointment for my 14 month old today. I didn't want him getting the flu shot on top of all of the other 12 month shots, and I needed to get my butt into gear!

Yep, we're getting our 6mo's done today. 4 year old had hers last week.

Hardly anyone qualifies for free flu shots on England My daughter (4) does but my son (16 months) doesn't and it isn't licenced for his age either so I can't pay for it. When we lived overseas though we did take the children for flu shots every year and I would now if I could.

Yup. My newly 2 year old is in daycare. She got her shot in October. I don't view it as optional for my kids since I can't put them in a bubble. They will both be exposed at daycare and public school. We typically see flu notices in our area starting in January.

Yep got hers at her 21 mo appt back in like Sept... Dr said it wasn't too early.

Yes I do every year. My children go to daycare and it is a requirement. I work in a hospital and it is also required for me. I will do it every year and want to protect ourselves as much as possible.

Yes, our pediatrician recommended it because he is in daycare. He's less than a year old and gets the vaccine in two doses. We go back Monday for his second shot.

With B I did his first year (9 months), didn't the next year (pregnant, lazy), and did this year. W is 8 months and got one this year.

Yes, every year. DD got hers at her 18-month checkup at the beginning of October.

Yes, DD will be two soon, she got it last month. She got it last year at 9 months. We'll have her get it every year.

I have friends who opt-out. I don't understand why. Any explanation?

Yep, of course! I'd feel terrible if my kids got sick and I hadn't done everything in my power to protect them from it.

@CatchAFallingStar: Our doctor doesn't routinely recommend the flu shot for healthy kids, and maintains it's up the parents. There is plenty of good perspective online why someone might opt-out.

Yes, his bday is in September so his well visit is always right when they start giving them out so I have no excuse.
I think he wasn't allowed to get one until 1 year? So he had last years and this years.

Yep, we all have gotten ours. DS1 got his on Monday at his 3 year appointment and DS2 got his a few weeks ago at his 15 month appointment. DH and I both got ours in September.

We all get ours every year. LO got his first one right at six months.

Yes, DS got one last year at 7 months and again this year at 18 months. I am pregnant and got mine already, and DH is supposed to go soon.

Everyone gets one, every year. I would only skip if there was some sort of true medical contraindication (which is pretty rare). 15 month old DS already had his
My husband got the flu several years ago (pre-LO) and was INCREDIBLY sick - like, in the hospital and then got pneumonia. It was awful. And he was a healthy strong young guy. I shudder to think what the outcome would be in a young child.

The kids get it in the fall. I think our doctor starts giving the shot at six months. DD was just a bit too young last fall, but we figured it's no big deal because she was at home. Wrong. She got the flu at 8 months when neither kid was in day care. Still no clue who she got it from. It was awful, she had a fever over 100 for three days straight (despite being on Advil and Tylenol non stop) and could barely eat or drink. And when she got better, DH got it and was laid up for a few days. DS had his flu shot and it looked like he had a very mild case, one day of feeling off and that was it. I'm not sure how I didn't get sick.

We get it. I know someone who's two year old boy died last year from the flu. Healthy otherwise. Get the flu shot people.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@SweetiePie: they can get it at 6 months but with his birthday, he wouldn't have needed it until he was a year at the start of flu season.
We all get it- though I have to force dh and I actually haven't gotten mine yet. The first one for a kid, regardless of age I think, is two doses a month apart.
My pediatrician recommends it for everyone, regardless of daycare or anything like that.

Dd got her first dose at 6 months and second dose a month later. DS 3.5y/o got his too. I think it was his second or third time getting it. We might've skipped last year unintentionally.
