@Alexandra603: I flew with both my kids when they were about 3 months old. Flying before 4 months is the easiest time in my opinion! They're still pretty flexible, sleep a lot, and are great lap babies. I would feed during takeoff and landing to minimize ears popping. I would just bring the Ergo and if you're planning to bring you carseat do you have one of those carseat/snap n go combos? If so, I would do that and gate check the carseat. You could stroll your baby all the way to the gate and gate check both the carseat and snap n go.

We flew with c when she was 4.5 months and it wasn't bad. We brought her infant seat and a snap and go base, gate checked on the way there, baggage checked on the way home. I wore her in the beco in the airport mostly but we were able to put bags in the snap and go and it was a place to put her down. We brought big garbage bags to put the seat and stroller in for checking, because we are super classy.

My tips- practice, or make your so practice, putting the seat and stroller into te bag, if you go that route- it may be trickier than you expect. And have a gallon ziploc with diaper changing essentials- couple diapers, wipes, pad, so you don have to bring your whole diaper bag into the bathroom.

I flew with DS and DH when DS was 2.5 months old (he mostly slept) and 5.5 months (did not sleep, played with everything -pretzel bag, cups, napkins. Anything to keep him happy!). We didn't use the stroller too much at our destination, but having it in the airport for the car seat was reason enough to bring it. Don't trust renting a seat, I've read horror stories of them (rental car places) providing inappropriate seats (like a booster for a baby) or expired seats. Technically you aren't supposed to gate check either, but I personally think that's the lesser of 2 evils!

And definitely what @Foodnerd81: said. Practice putting them in their bags at home!

We flew with our 4 month old to visit DH's family - 2 flights each way, about 8 hours airport to airport. We took a cheap umbrella stroller and it was great to have somewhere to store our carryon bags when we were carrying LO. Take more diapers than you think you will need, and extra clothes for you and LO. I would also recommend taking a boppy/pillow to hold LO on. Some airlines won't let you wear the baby on the flight and it was so much easier to nurse and hold her on the pillow while whe slept.
