LO had just turned one when we traveled and we took 4 different plane rides! We used the ergo for some and a stroller for some. We just pushed the stroller through the scanner that people walk through, but we just had an umbrella stroller and then checked it at the gate, check with your airline what they'll allow.

Honestly, it wasn't all that bad, we tried to get LO all worn out before the plane ride so she'd sleep on the plane, which worked out nicely.

We just took a car trip vacation followed by a plane vacation. Interestingly enough, the plane ride was easier IMO.

DS is 4 months old. I put him in the maya wrap right when we got to the airport. I did have to take him out for security checkpoint because there are metal rings on the sling, but I put him right back in. I think he did so great because he was on me the whole time. He could sleep when he wanted, or look around as much as he wanted. If he got overstimulated, he could just turn his head into me and not look. I liked not having to deal with the size of a stroller and the hassle of it.

He fell asleep while we were boarding the plane, and slept during takeoff and half the flight. When he woke up, he was still in the wrap and was cooing and smiling the whole time. During landing, I held him close against me and gave him his pacifier to suck on. I don't think his ears bothered him.

The sucking helps with the ears, I either nursed or gave him his pacifier and he seemed perfectly fine.

I actually sat next to another mom with a baby, and she patted his back firmly when he started to get upset, and that calmed him right down.

It was a breeze for us honestly - I wish it was this easy for all babies!

I anticipate myself doing this often as well so my mom gets to see LO more often. So I'm going to "favorite" this post!

Hopefully she starts to like the K'tan more!

I carried Lo in a Carrier when we traveled. We take our umbrella stroller with us and check it at the gate.
I miss the days of traveling with an infant! It's so much more difficult traveling with an older baby IMO.
Hope you have fun! I wish my fam lived an hour away..! I'd visit 2x a month at least!

We flew with LO when she was about 6 weeks old. We have the Uppababy Vista and it wouldn't fit through the machine, so we had to take the baby out, pop the seat off and run the seat through the machine. A TSA agent took the base and inspected it and we walked through the x-ray machine with the baby. I also made sure to have all of her goodies ready and in ziploc bags and so we weren't hassled too much about her formula and what not. We also have Delta Sky Club passes, which was nice because we could kind of spread out and get the stroller prepped for the flight (we use the uppababy travel case-it has wheels!) and get LO in the sling.

Taking the full size stroller was clutch, because it allowed me to store the diaper bag and my small carry on (with extra bottles and what not) underneath. If it had been a shorter trip, I might have just used the sling!

@duckduckkristen: yeP.. It's a pain, but they make you take the carrier off.

@Mrs. Jacks: so they don't have to be "safety restrained" the rest of the time?

My LO is almost 8 monhs and we just had a last minute flight from Seattle to Mobile, AL...it was her first time flying and it wasn't bad/difficult at all. We took an umbrella stroller that went through the security machines and I just carried her through with me. I felt like everyone made an effort to make things easy for us since we had a baby - all men were asked to go through an additional screening (it was the week of the 4th of July) but my husband was waived through since he was with us

We checked all of our bags except for a diaper bag and a backpack full of toys, books and a blanket. My husband handled the bags and stroller through security while I carried LO...it definitely helps having 2 people traveling with a baby.

We also packed our white noise machine and our baby monitor...highly recommend this!

Check with your airline, some have weight limits for gate checked strollers.
