Anyone fly as a family on Southwest? Was it hard or easy to get seats together?
Thinking of using Southwest for an upcoming trip with DH and LO, but the no-seating assignment thing worries me a little. I've only flown Southwest a couple of times before and was solo, so didn't care where I sat. With LO I really need an aisle seat and with Dh!

With SW, you check in ahead of time. If you all check in about 24 hours ahead, you will get to board before most people, choosing wherever you want to sit.

You get to board between groups a and b. We had no issues getting seats together.

I heard a trick is to buy advance seating for 1 person and save seats and then have the other person come later.

We're actually flying SW with a baby for the first time next Saturday. I've never not been able to get a seat with DH, and they always board families with small children pretty early.

@heartonastring: this exactly. Families with kids get "priority" boarding before all the rest of the plane is boarded. We didn't have trouble getting seats together on SW.

Agree re buying the upgraded boarding pass or try to check in early so you get an A boarding pass. Otherwise you board between groups A and B, which shouldn't be a problem but doesn't necessarily guarantee you'll get the seats you want (60 people potentially boarding before you).

From what I've seen you should strategically plop your unpaid LO in a seat during boarding. If the plane isn't full you have just claimed an extra seat for yourself/LO/your stuff. If the plane fills up they will make an announcement that you have to hold your unpaid lap kids.
