I am starting to arrange play dates with some mommy acquaintances so I do not know them that well. Do I provide food/snacks if they come over? If I go to their place, do I bring something? I am not sure of the etiquette and what kind of food is good for play dates?

How long are the playdates, and what times are they at?

@Andrea: I definitely wouldn't expect snacks as a guest at that time! A bowl of fruit might be a safe compromise... but no need for hors d'oeuvres or anything, I think. At least, in my neck of the woods!

Once a month LO and I have a playdate with four other women and their babies and we each bring something (I always bring a dessert, there's always cheese/crackers/dip, someone brings fruit, etc.). It doens't matter whose house we're doing this playdate at, we all each bring one small thing. Could you maybe suggest something like that?

Food for the moms or the kids?
It would be super convenient if you had a few things, just in case the moms were out running around. Sometimes we get so focused on our LO's that we forget to feed ourselves, YKWIM?

I was raised to never have company without offering some type of snack and beverage. I was also taught to always offer to bring something when going to someone else's house. I definitely see these habits continuing when our baby is old enough for playdates.
