I had never had deer meat until I moved in with DH. He's a deer hunter and we keep a freezer full. I loooooove it.

Sushi. My family's never been big on it. When met my DH, I had it for the first time at a good place not a grocery store and loved it. I really didn't eat lima beans growing up because my mom hated them as a child. Now we serve LO mixed vegetables with lima beans in it. He generally likes it, but lately has been a little weird about veggies.

DH never had meat that wasn't well done. He also jokes that his food was never spiced. His parents prefer overcooked and bland german/swiss food.
There are lots of veggies I never tried not because I was picky, but because my parents never made them - like parsnips, rutabaga, fennel.

I'm sure there are more, but Indian food! My family didn't eat out much and there also weren't many options where we lived. I've loved Indian food since!

@cascademom: me too! Sushi! And now it is my favorite food! I remember the first time I went out for it to try it and we didn't really get it and had no idea what we were doing!
Um...everything? We at boring vanilla crap growing up. Hemp, brewers yeast, my beloved Cajun and Thai, Indian food, just to name a few...

I hated bell peppers growing up but re-tried them in college and now I like them! Can't say the same for onions or tomatoes though!

There were quite a few. We didn't eat out often and the selections near us weren't very diverse. I never had Thai food or sushi and probably a lot of others I can't think of right now!

@Greentea: @Emsmems: Yeah, I thought I had decent exposure to food before graduate school and meeting my DH, but not sushi. It was embarrassing when I tried it for the first time too. DH's ex-girlfriend owed him money, so she called about something else on one of my first nights with DH like a week into our relationship. DH, myself, DH's ex-girlfriend, and her boyfriend (now husband) went out for sushi. I felt like an idiot in general, but got hooked on sushi over time. Now, I look forward to takeout sushi at home or when we went on vacation.

@TemperanceBrennan: @looch: My MIL's the bad cook out of DH's family. I never thought that I would love collard greens like I do until his grandma made them for various meals. I always eat a ton of those when we're there. LO took to Southern food staples quickly too like collard greens, black eyed peas, and others. My MIL was shocked to see LO eat everyday adult food so well.

Chinese food. We didn't really have any places in town that had it and my parents weren't big on it anyways. I always thought I didn't like it until I met my husband and he made me try it! I've still never tried most ethnic food people love (Indian, thai, etc).

@Danizaur: Same! My family doesn't hunt, but where I went to college a lot of guys do. Deer meat, sausage, quail, dove.
