What is your go to toy this year... my son is going to be 2.5 for Christmas and I'm hoping that he will "get it". What was your kid into at this age!?

My daughter is 2.5 and I'm thinking of an art easel or a dress up chest full of costumes!

M is just turning 3 in dec and I'm getting some more play food for her kitchen. She's had it since her 2nd bday and still plays with it everyday.

I've been going back and forth. I'm definitely getting her a ring sling for her babies. Probably some art supplies, and some cool block sets (like mirrored ones or castle ones). I think we've decided to wait until maybe her birthday to do the dollhouse, but I might get her some people for it now, because I think she'd like using them with her cars, blocks, farm, etc.
maybe more stuff for her train set?
Also planning to get her a wheelbarrow in the spring, for outside play. And at some point in the next year I will probably get her a new doll. She currently plays with my two dolls from when i was little, and one of them (a cabbage patch doll from 1985) is in rough shape.
And books! Whenever I ask what she wants, that's it.

@Silva: a wheel barrow sounds cool! I was thinking about a balance bike but seems kind of mean to give it in the dead of winter... I don't know how much fun he'd have with that before his June birthday! Also, You inspired me to look at cabbage patch dolls. I can't find many online! On their official website they want $15 shipping making the doll cost $55! Sadly, that falls into "no way" category for me!

@fancyfunction: Have you used cutting food with your LO yet? My son really likes it but it is a little of a pain for me b/c he constantly wants me to put it back together to cut again!

She got a kitchen last year (2y3m). This year I think a doll house!

@sslm: He is really into halloween now that we did the zoo trick or treat event, I bet a couple of costumes would get a lot of play time.

@reverie: oh man, that makes me even more paranoid. The one she has is her favorite, she brings it everywhere, and it so so old. Like it kind of looks like the head might pop off. I'm so worried about what will happen when that thing disintegrates. (She of course all but completely ignores the gorgeous handmade heirloom Waldorf doll that we have....)

Xander's really into Thomas the Tank, so we're getting him some of the wooden train tracks and trains for Christmas. Also a Thomas puzzle and some books.

Evan was a little younger than 2.5 last Christmas. I think last year we got him a big ABC train floor puzzle., M&D See and Spell set, a couple books and some clothes.
This year he's getting Magna-tiles (from his incoming baby sister) and Matchbox cars/carrying case (and books and clothes). And probably something else that I haven't decided on yet.

@Silva: I have seen like one or two options at toysrus but they are girl dolls and I wanted a boy but I guess if you're not picky you can find one retail!

@lovehoneybee: I was thinking of stepping up from the "baby" puzzles he has but I am worried about him getting frustrated. How did he take to it?

@Adira: I think I might save train gear for his birthday in June! I'm pretty happy with a June birthday 6 months after Christmas!

@reverie: Not yet! She's into the plastic and felt foods right now.

LO just got a Micro Mini scooter and a train table for her 2nd birthday and both were hits. For Christmas, Santa is bringing her a kitchen and all the trimmings.
