I'm curious if anyone was able to get pregnant on their own after a year of trying or did you have fertility treatments done? (IUI, IVF, etc).
We are heading into month 12 and I'm just looking for answers and how best to proceed in this seemingly endless process. I think we may talk to a RE in Oct/Nov and look into a IUI but I would love to think that getting pregnant on our own is still possible after a year (I've read that chances actually diminish after a year of trying). Thanks!

We're in cycle 16. We have an appointment in two weeks to decide whether we will be doing IUI or IVF. We have a male factor infertility issue and it doesn't look like we'll be able to conceive on our own.

My cousin tried for 10 years, IVF & IUI didn't work for her. She suffered three miscarriages along the way. She and her husband adopted three kids in April and she is now seven months pregnant naturally. Her doctors had given her a 1% chance of it happening without intervention.

We spoke with an RE during month 11. He suggested Clomid + IUI + progesterone supplements the next month, and it all failed. We were going to go for IUI #2, so I started the Clomid as planned. DH had a last minute work trip to Europe over the time I was to ovulate and do the IUI. I was so burnt out and not willing to risk another failure AND miss a trip to Europe, so we decided to skip the IUI and go to Paris for a few days. Totally got pregnant in Paris and now have a little "baguette" in the oven. Looking back, I think I definitely needed the Clomid (had low progesterone) but also the break from the stress of TTC.

If you're considering seeing a fertility specialist, try to schedule the appointment soon. I made an appointment at the start of August (cycle 13) and I wasn't able to get in to see my preferred doctor until the end of September. I know every doctor's office is different, just my two cents.
Now I'm in the midst of taking a month off, waiting to see the doctor and get some answers....secretly hoping that our month off results in a BFP without medical intervention.
I wish it could happen naturally. But my one glimmer of hope is that hopefully by this time next year I will be a mom (with the help of a fertility specialist). I had wished that 2012 was the year I would become a mom...but here's to next year!

I tried for a year then had five cycles of fertility drugs (mostly just to cause ovulation no IUI or IVF). Then we did a year of adoption process then bam pregnant with twins without ny fertility aids. It would have been at about 2.5 years of TTC but when we started the adoption process I was not actively trying anymore it just happened.

Thank you everyone for your posts and personal stories. Your and other's individual journeys really puts things into perspective. We probably should at least schedule an appointment (thank you @sweetooth for the head's up!) or maybe go to Paris (congrats @Tidybee!) I would be down with this idea 
LOVE Paris. It may also be that we should try for a couple of more months. DH has mild motility issues and I don't think I'm producing enough CM. We haven't tried preseed yet so maybe we'll give it a go before we do anything else. I would like to know we tried everything we could.

@MK0180: I have two friends who had babies after trying for over a year, one did a year with no interventions + 6 cycles of clomid + 6 cycles of IUI (all failed) then got pregnant with twins her first round of IVF (they are 2). The other tried for a year with various issues (uterine polyps, PCOS), 1st round of IVF failed, 2nd round took and she miscarried at 8 weeks. They stopped ttc and went on vacation and bam pregnant. Baby is a year. So there is ALWAYS hope!

we tried for 22 cycles (unexplained infertility, 2 chemical pregnancies along the way), 1 cycle of clomid, before I found the infertility study that gave us IUI and our BFP.

I don't know if my story counts because it was shy of a year, but DH had low motility/morphology and I had elevated FSH levels. We used fertilaid, preseed, and OPKs, and conceived naturally! I am now almost 18 weeks pregnant

I got pregnant a calendar year after we started trying but we found out about halfway through that I had a thyroid issue that was most likely hindering conception. I was under the care of an endocrinologist and we waited for a while (and she actually had us stop trying for about 4 months) and my thyroid ended up regulating itself and once I had regular levels for about 4 months I got pregnant. Moral of the story - get your thyroid checked!

not me personally, but i know two friends who conceived naturally after a year.
the first friend conceived after over 3 years of trying and she is now mom to a healthy baby boy! the 2nd friend conceived after about 1.5 years of trying, and she is due next month with a boy!

We started IVF after 17 months of TTC with PCOS/anovulatory cycles & some male factors. I'm 8 weeks pregnant, currently - we got our BFP on IVF #2 after 20 months.

we tried for a few years. got pregnant naturally once but lost it. got pregnant on first cycle of ivf. (3 cycles of iui+clomid didn't work)...

We tried for 13 months, I have PCOS and ridiculous cycles. We got pregnant using just metformin, I got my BFP the morning I was supposed to have my HSG for fertility testing.

One of my coworkers had a baby after 8 years of trying (I think they were NTNP at the time, because she was a grad student). Then they tried for 8 years to get baby #2 (including treatments) with no luck. Then just as they stopped trying they got pregnant. So yeah, there's always hope (I'm not patient enough for THAT though).

We started trying in October of 2010. In September 2011 I started seeing an acupuncturist on a regular basis. We started seeing an RE in December 2011, did one round of clomid (after testing on me and hubby - couldn't find anything wrong) and was pregnant in January 2012, due in about 3 weeks!
Definitely talk to an RE, but I also think that accupuncture was a HUGE help too.

I wa s just like you and. really wanted to conceive naturally. I ended up having an under medicate thyroid condition that I found out was the problem after conceiving. We did a year of acupuncture that really helped regulate my cycles and it was SO worth the time and money in my opinion. After 3 years of trying to figure it out I got pregnant. I'm holding my amazing 6 day old baby girl as I type. Best of luck to you @mk0180

@jedeve: No, we never use lube - I know it's bad for sperm, even saliva is bad for it. I never get a lot of EWCM (if any in most cycles) and I figure why not give pre-seed a shot? What else have we got to lose
@photomommy: Congratulations on your baby girl :))) I have heard great things about acupuncture but have yet to explore that path.
To you and everybody that posted their stories - it is great to read them and the eventual success out of the patience, the stress, and the waiting for a little one. The word "hope" has resonated throughout these posts and I think that has replenished my own hopefulness that we can eventually conceive

@MK0180: Canola oil is safe according to this study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8894797 but it didn't review Preseed. I don't know if preseed is supposed to "help" or not, but canola oil is definitely OK!
