Where did your water break and did it ruin anything? With my first, my water broke when I started pushing... All over the linoleum floor. It didn't ruin anything. I just bought a new bedspread that I love and I have this stupid fear that if my water breaks this time I'll ruin it (it's washable, I'm just worried about stains). Did your water breaking ruin anything?

I'm so lucky my water broke in my bathroom. But I had been prepared and had plastic on my bed, the couch and my drivers seat for weeks.

I was in the shower when it started leaking, so nothing ruined for me! I did wear a giant pad until I went to the hospital, and it was definitely necessary.

Mine broke in the hospital, so I only ruined the sheets on the hospital bed. But, a nurse friend stole a few of the bed pads they use that I put under the fitted sheet on my bed once I got to be about 36 weeks. Wouldn't protect your new bed spread but it would protect your mattress.

Mine must have broke in my bed, because I got up to go to the bathroom and noticed my underwear were wet. I kind of thought I had an accident.... but I was still leaking. Thankfully I just "sprung a leak" and there wasn't any huge gushing, because my bed was totally fine/not wet at all. I'm thinking though, that if your water does break in bed, there probably wouldn't be a huge gush unless you were moving around?

@ktdid23: that makes me feel a bit better. Because of the way mine broke the first time, when I started pushing, it was SUPER forceful. Like someone slammed a water balloon at our feet lol, but I was standing, fully dilated and pushing. I wondered how that compares to breaking in early labor.

@beyond2: ohhhh yes, it was just a leak. My water broke at 4am and I didn't start having contractions until about 45 minutes later. When I was pushing (around 8pm that night), there was a TON of fluid, but it certainly wasn't like that when it first broke. I mean, even on the way to the hospital, I used a pad and put a towel down on the car seat, and the towel wasn't wet by the time we got there.

Mine broke in bed the first time, but I was able to get to the bathroom for most of it.

Mine broke in bed/in athe bathroom, but it wasn't a gush, it was more of a trickle, so it didn't ruin anything!

Mine broke in bed but it wasn't much and I had prepared by putting towels down a few nights before. It didn't really start gushing until I stood up.

Mine was pretty gushy, but luckily it broke while I was in the bathroom. I did ruin a pair of maternity jeans because on the way to the hospital every time I had a contraction it was like I peed myself. I threw the pants out lol

Mine broke in bed and it was a huge gush, but the gushing didn't really come until I jumped out of bed. We had a plastic mattress cover on just in case, so that wasn't a problem - my husband just washed the sheets. The floor did require quite a bit of mopping though;)

With LO1 it broke while I was peeing on the toilet, very convenient!
With LO2 it broke while I was sitting on LO1's bed reading stories! It didn't ruin anything and he has a waterproof mattress protector on his bed. However, he did get really concerned that "mama made an accident!!!" -
Luckily I had just gotten off the couch. It was a huge gush all over the hardwood floors. Otherwise I have no clue how we would have gotten it out of the couch.

Mine started leaking in the middle of the night at my inlaws. Luckily i jumped out of bed before it got on anything!

Mine broke in bed. It woke me up immediately and I made it to the bathroom without it ruining anything. However, I was already wearing a thick pad (I was 40w5d and was anticipating) and by the time I was in the bathroom my pad had soaked through to my underwear and pjs.

my water broke while i was in bed, so no big gush or ruined sheets. i had placed a potty pad (from our dogs) under the sheet as to protect the mattress, but i didn't go as far as to actually sleep on the potty pad (on top of the sheet), although that's an idea.

I was at a friends house (after a long day on my feet teaching) and it happened slowly...but by the time I got to the hospital I was soaked all the way to my knees. I sat on a plastic bag in my car because that was all I had, but it didn't ruin my pants or the seat in my car.

Following because I'm slightly concerned about this! My husband doesn't want to let me leave the house towards the end because he thinks my water will break out in public somewhere and it will be awful haha

Mine broke when I was in the bathroom, right after I got out of the shower. It was gross because my dog started licking it off the floor... Yuck.

@Mae: This was my biggest fear about being in the classroom! I was teaching 5th grade
I can't imagine the look of horror on the kids faces if it was a huge gush and very obvious. I am thankful it held off until after school -
@Mrs. Lion: You're a rockstar for teaching until the end! I work at home so at least I don't have to worry about that. But we were at the movies this weekend and saw a preview for a movie that comes out the weekend I'm due. I was like "Ohhh that could be our last pre-baby movie!" and my husband was like "UMMMMM what if you go into labor at the mall?!" I'm like... then I go into labor at the mall? lol I mean *most* people go into labor slowly, it doesn't necessarily have to be dramatic haha.

I bent down to pick some laundry off the floor, and a little gush started. Enough to soak my underwear and pants, but no mess on the floor or anything. I got to the toilet, and a larger gush when I sat down, and then it just kept leaking. I kept a garbage bag in my glove box starting around week 30, so I sat on that on the way to the hospital, and then tracked a little trail of fluid through the parking lot, into the emergency room, and up to maternity.

I felt a pop in bed. It got on the sheets a little but I ran to the bathroom and most of it was in my pants and then toilet. I had put a towel under the sheets a week or so prior and we just washed them when we got home from the hospital. No stains.

My water broke as I was sitting in bed trying to put my sweat pants on. It was like an awkward pop/squirt. It mostly got on some clothes that were on the floor, and a little on the carpet. We threw the clothes in the washer and DH spot cleaned the carpet as I was showering.

Mine broke in bed but it wasn't a gush but more like a pop and a trickle. I hopped out of bed and got to the bathroom where I had the gush on the tile floor. So nothing was ruined! I had been sleeping and sitting on those good nites waterproof pads for potty training just in case though!

I was so paranoid about it breaking on the bed.

Mine broke in bed too, and like a lot of these ladies it wasn't really apparent until I got up and went to the bathroom to check. I don't think any actually got on my sheets.

My water broke (I thought I peed myself) when I was in bed, I bought a waterproof cover very early on in my pregnancy so I didn't have to worry about it. I didn't have a huge gush or anything, it actually came out pretty slowly. I didn't ruin anything.
In the car ride to the hospital, I sat on a disposable changing table liner.

@swurlygurl: mine broke when i was putting on yoga pants!
luckily i was standing over our wood floors and NOT over the new rug we had just purchased! nothing was ruined and i still wear those yoga pants.

Mine broke in bed. Then I proceeded to pack my hospital back while leaking over the carpet. I wore a pad and sat on a towel in the car on the way there. Nothing was ruined.

#1 - water broke while I was napping, but it was a small trickle not a huge gush, and I was wearing a pantyliner so that caught all of it. I quickly went to the bathroom and changed into a pad.
#2 - water broke while I was cooking, but again, was wearing a pantyliner that caught all of it.
Very similar both times - more of a slow trickle than huge gush. Nothing was ruined. I did have a vinyl picnic sheet under my bedsheet covers just in case though! I didn't want to risk ruining my mattress.

Mine broke in bed. Huge gush, soaked my bed. My sheets washed just fine but there was a huge stain on my mattress... we have a new mattress now and this time I will be putting a protective cover on it when it gets closer to time.

In my living room..but I had a pad on fr my bloody show, so it caught it as I ran to the bathroom before it went everywhere!

It broke in bed but it didn't ruin anything - and that's even with meconium!
I can't imagine the look of horror on the kids faces if it was a huge gush and very obvious. I am thankful it held off until after school 
haha
