For my first baby I was very adamant that it be just my DH, because it was our first baby and I wanted it to be special and just because I didn't want anyone else, my moms feelings were very hurt! But after going through it all once, my next baby I will invite my mom and MIL in there.

I have no plans to have another baby, but I would still just keep it the 2 of us. I ended up having a silent birth. Our Mother's wouldn't be able to keep quiet if that's what I wanted again.

Mom and DH were in the room with me when I had LO.
It'll only be me and DH with baby 2. If DH is traveling, I might be alone! -

For my first it was DH and my step mom in there with me. I will probably have it the same way for the next one, or possibly just DH. I was induced for my son and my step mom is a nurse and I wanted her there for extra support since DH hates hospitals and gets really anxious. I have no intentions of having my MIL in the room ever. She is too intense and overbearing. I would have my SIL there if she wanted to and my stepmom couldn't be there, though maybe just for labor and not delivery.

@mrsaudi: @Bao: I know. Being alone would suck, but I'd want my mom to stay with LO. :T There are a few people I could ask, but I think it might be more uncomfortable having them in the room with me

It was just my husband and me for both birth. We're pretty private people.

Nope - it was just DH and I for our first baby and it will only be DH and I for all subsequent babies. Fortunately, my mom had no desire to be present and neither did DH's mum - and neither dad had ANY interest in being present for that!
As my mom has always said, "childbirth is not a spectator sport". DH and I buy into that 100%.

@mrsaudi: hah he stayed up by my head or by the warming cart and excused himself from the room during cervical checks. MIL, on the other hand, might as well have settled in with a bowl of popcorn.

I think it'll just be DH and a doula again. I loved having my family in the waiting room, but I don't want to have them in the room with me. I want skin on skin and nursing right away again and that takes time.

for this one i just had DH. next one i might have my mom (she was out of the country) and my best friend (she had to work).

Probably less. During labor my mom, dad , sister, SIL, and DH were in the room. For pushing it was just mom, sister and DH. I had a very long labor and would have been able to get more rest if everyone hadn't been there, but I didn't have the heart to kick them out.
Next one will probably be another c section anyway so it would just be DH!

Nope. I only wanted DH but nobody listened to what I wanted. He missed my entire pregnancy due to being deployed. I really wanted us to have that time alone. Next time, I'm putting my foot down and involving the hospital staff if I need to.

I know my mom is a little upset about that
I still want it to be private between the two of us.
MIL has been at all of the other grandchildrens births, but now that we're having her 5th she couldnt care less one way or the other.I'll see how this one goes, but open to including my mother in the next one.
