I love the name Jackson but I won't use it cause it is a good friend's son name. But she told me I could use it. I personally think it would be weird.

DH and I both like a boy's name that is our friend's last name, but we would do that.

I have the same perspective as you. I don't think I would care at all. Actually, I think it would be kind of fun to have kids with the same name. I have the same taste in girls names as one of my friend's husband and we joked that we might end up with daughters with the same name and we were both ok with it!

Wouldn't bother me one bit. If you love it, use it...we don't own the rights to the name. If anything I'd be flattered & compliment them on their good taste in names.

If it was a good friend I think it would be weird/awkward/confusing.

I have a friend who wanted to use my husband's first and last name as her potential son's first and middle name. These both were not common names. We were more just weirded out (we hang out with these people a fair amount) and when my husband said "hey that seems a little weird, right?" she said that he should be honored. They had a girl, luckily.

I wouldn't care. Ours is a very uncommon name, but a family name. Since DS has been born 2 others have told me it's also a family name for them! So I could see it possibly being used.

Generally I wouldn't have a problem with it, but her name is so different that it would be rare. I've told a few HB friends and friends who live in other areas they SHOULD use it! I would love to have another Effie to pass stuff with her name on it on to. That being said, the only time I would NOT be ok with it was family, or a friend who is ultra competitive/awkward. If we hung out a lot too I might be less ok with it for Effie, but maybe ok with it for a more common girl name (like Lauren or Amanda was when I was growing up) or more common boy names especially.

I'd probably be a little miffed at first, but I'd get over it.

My mom and her BFF both have a daughter with the same name.

It might bother me for a second, but then I don't think I'd care once I got used to the new baby and their name.

I would think it was kind of weird if they were like "Hey we really like D's name, mind if we use it for our son?" On the other hand, if it was more like "D's a family name for us, just want to let you know it's one of our top contenders" I'd be totally fine with it. I can't tell anyone not to use a name, especially if it has a lot of meaning to them.

I would think it was weird (unless it was a family name) because LO's name is very uncommon. It wouldn't make me angry though.

The only way I would think it would be weird is if one of my immediate family members named their child the same as mine. Otherwise, I don't think it's weird at all.

I think it would bother me a little, but that might stem from me growing up with three younger siblings who copied everything I did I also won't choose very popular names, so it would likely be a little more strange for that reason.

I'd be a hypocrite if I was offended: dh and I decided on our lo's name before even ttc and it's a family name , but one of my very good friends named her daughter who was born 3 months before ours a very similar name. Oops! We weren't going to change our name choice so now they just have almost the same name.

@Mae: my thoughts exactly. I wouldn't be happy about it, but I would never confront the friend about it.
