Ts bed converts to a full sized bed and we are just skipping the toddler bed altogether. Suggestions on a mattress? Are they supposed to still be firm or does it not matter anymore?

Firmness doesn't matter since they can turn their heads. I like a firm with plush top mattress. Does your LO like your bed?

We got a plush set from Sleepy's.
I do think firmness matters in terms of proper spinal development, but I have no sources to substantiate this, but we went with what my son likes.

Our toddler moved herself into our guest bedroom (how presumptuous, right?) around 2.5, which happened to have a full-sized bed. We bought the mattress from Sam's; I think it has a plush top. She just got what we already had and I didn't give a second thought to it.

We got our mattress at a mattress store and they recommended pillow top for our girl. Said it didn't really matter at this age but as she gets older with curves she will find the softness more comfortable. We also didn't spend much as I felt like we would be replacing this mattress within 5-7 years.
The salesperson told us boys tend to prefer firmer beds due to their lack of curves in the hip area, so it provides better support.

Personally, I like a firm mattress with a plush top, so that's probably what we would buy.

@looch: I heard this same thing about firmness and proper spinal development. We got our twin mattress at Sam's Club. I think it's a Sealy with innersprings and is actually quite comfy.

We bought a cheapie mattress. We figured it would weather us through potty training and then we'd spring for something nicer.
