My husband got bar supplies for Christmas and we want to make a special drink for New Years Eve at our house. Any suggestions for fun alcoholic beverages? We typically stick to beer, wine and margaritas...
I'm looking for something that tastes good and looks good. We have wine and martini glasses to serve it in.

I made crystalized cranberries and served them with champagne at a Christmas party. It looked pretty and the cranberries were tasty. 
What about some type of flavored martini with a garnish?

Svedka Citron, Triple Sec, Sour Mix and Freshly squeezed Lemon Juice, served in a Sugar Rimmed Glass
Pink Passion
Finlandia Vodka, Pomegranate Liqueur and Pineapple in a Pomegranate Sugar Rimmed Glass

I usually serve a champagne cocktail - reasonably priced champagne, splash of pomegranate juice, splash of cassis liqueur and a few pomegranate seeds for visual effect. Always a big hit.

If you like margaritas, you might also like a Lemon Drop martini. It's not too girly of a drink so you're husband will probably like it too!
Depending on what supplies you got and how ambitious you are, mojitos are pretty and delicious. They are not hard to make, but more steps than a lot of other cocktails.

I like a good Moscow Mule or a Moscato Mule. Might be a nice one for NYE, since it's fizzy.
3 ounces Moscato
4 ounces ginger beer
1-ounce lime juice
Lime wheel
Mint sprig for garnish
For a manlier/more traditional Moscow Mule, you use vodka instead of wine.

Oh man I love cocktails heh. One of my favorites is wedding cake vodka, pineapple juice, and a splash of maraschino cherry for a pineapple upside down cake. You can rim the glasses in yellow sugar

I love to drink a French 75 and I think it's nice and festive for New Year's Eve, especially with the lemon twists. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/French-75-242668
1 lemon
3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounces) gin
1 1/2 tablespoons (3/4 ounce) fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) simple syrup
1 cup ice cubes
1/4 cup (2 ounces) dry sparkling wine, such as brut Champagne, chilled
Using zester or paring knife, slice peel from lemon in long, thin spiral. Reserve lemon for another use and set peel aside.
In cocktail shaker, combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Add ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into chilled Champagne flute and top with sparkling wine.
Curl lemon peel around finger to create twist at least 6 inches long. Garnish drink with twist and serve immediately.

@MrsSCB: I loooove French 75 despite the fact that gin and I divorced due to irreconcilable differences.
We also like a good Dark and Stormy .... spiced rum (Kraken is good) and real ginger beer. (Not the alcoholic kind of ginger beer...I find the non-alcoholic ginger beer has a much heftier ginger bite!)

@Madison43: I was coming to suggest this! I forget what it's called, but my MIL always makes champagne and cassis liqueur with pomegranate seeds, and it looks so pretty!
I also love mojitos, especially blackberry ones!
