I love non-fiction, and am going to get a bunch of books before we fly to visit my parents next week!
Anyone read any fun non-fiction lately? I love to read, so will read almost anything if it comes with a strong recommendation!

Do you read The New Yorker? I am obsessed. You can download a couple of issues on your tablet.

@mrbee: Do you like food books? I'm a HUGE fan of food writers - my favourites are:
Jeffrey Steingarten - The Man Who Ate Everything
Jay Rayner - The Man Who Ate the World
Steve Almond - Candyfreak
Ruth Reichl - Garlic and Sapphires
I have a dozen more - but I won't bore you if that's not your thing!

@lamariniere: I used to subscribe! But the post office kept losing my copies, so I stopped ready... good idea to subscribe over iPad!

@Mrs. Tiger: Thank you, just bought it!
@Mrs. Oatmeal: Ah food books are books by food critics? I've read a couple and enjoyed them, like Frank Bruni's memoir. If you let me know your top all-time recommends, I'll definitely get them - and thank you!!

@mrbee: By food critics mostly, or just people who REALLY like food.
My favourites are Jeffrey Steingarten (he has two), and Jay Rayner. I've read them a dozen times each, I think. Candyfreak is really great, but its about candy factories specifically. Ruth Reichl's Garlic and Sapphires talks about her time as a critic for the New York Times (I believe), and all the restaurants she visited, and costumes she used. That one might be interesting, since you're living in NYC and would know the places.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: Ok thanks, I'll check it out! I loved Anthony Bourdain's books, and love reading about restaurants, so I bet these will be right up my alley!

@Mrs. Oatmeal: Oh I meant to add, do you read Serious Eats? They have a great series written by a Brooklyn restaurateur! The oldest column is at the bottom of the page here:

@mrbee: No! But now I've found a rabbit hole to fall into!
