I had mine out in December, I was 6 weeks post partum and it was an emergency surgery so that was the most difficult part of it all (trying to arrange childcare, meals, etc on basically zero notice). That part was very frightening and stressful.

The procedure itself only took about 90 minutes. I spent one night in the hospital and the surgeon gave me the option of staying a second night, but I felt okay enough to go home.

The first few days were a mixture of pain meds, sleep, and laying on the couch. I would say a week later I felt moderately better, and 2-3 weeks later I felt almost 100%.

My scars have healed well and the best part is I no longer have the awful pain that I dealt with for 2 years (when I didn't know it was actually my gall bladder flaring up).

ETA: I'm in Canada so i was on a year long mat anyway. But my surgeon said he would have put me off for 6 weeks had I been working . Looking back that probably would have been excessive and I would have felt well enough at 3-4 weeks.

I've heard emergency surgery can be tougher to recover from than a planned lap.

@MamaG: my husband did it in 2007, so 9 years ago. He was out of commission for a week I want to say. But out of work (then in medical school on rotation) for a month.
