Cervical checks are really uncomfortable. Just remember that our lady bits PREPARE and stretch for baby to come out.. something that it doesn't do when a whole hand is jabbed up there! (ugh) And the pressure on your cervix at this point will also make the area more sensitive (like the actual cervix itself)... in labor your cervix will open and your vagina will prepare to stretch.

It is "painful" (although I've heard from lots of home/natural birth mommas its DOABLE) and it is hard, and something we get to endure & persevere through... BUUUUUT (very big but) It is one of the most amazing and memorable experiences in our lives and SOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!

You'll be JUST fine! Do all you can in the last few days to RELAX... your muscles, face, tensions, and worries, baby will be here soon and it will be a GREAT day. =)

Just remember that your body has prepared for and more importantly, is built for delivering a baby. And although the pain is intense, it gradually increases from the first contraction so is much more bearable than say a sudden broken bone. You're stronger than you think

Come on, Baby Cakes, don't make your mommy get induced! It's more fun if you come out on your own. (Er, you don't mind Baby Cakes, do you? 'Cause your mommy is RachieCakes, and it made sense... OK, I'll go be socially awkward elsewhere.)

I didn't like the cervical checks either! I went into the hospital to get induced with absolutely no progress so I started from zero. To find my cervix they had to tilt the table.

I was scared too.. but just keep telling yourself.. "lots and lots of women do this everyday, I can too.." or what else helped me is... there are 14 year old girls out there who have had babies, if they can, I can too! Goodluck! and don't worry too much.. soon you will have a beautiful baby!

You will definitely be ok, I went through TWO DAYS of labor thanks to induction b/c of pre-e and that was still nothing (thanks to epidural and nubain) compared to the intense pain of cervical checks!

You do get used to them though, sort of...

The thought is scarier then the doing! And when you are in the middle of it, and everything is going on, you just do it! You will get through, and if its real bad, there are lots of different meds!

can't really offer encouragement because i'm in the same boat - or similar. i'm only 22 weeks and i'm getting awfully NERVOUS! but hang in there! in just a short while, you'll have your precious baby and this feeling will be a distant memory!

Really, you will be fine. Your body and mind prepare themselves for those moments of delivery... I went unmedicated until the end and then got an epidural and had the most beautiful birth experience. It wasn't bad at all!

ok, so question. I can understand why cervical checks would be necessary if you have some sort of background issue going on like pre-e, but for someone who has had no complications in their pregnancy, why would a cervical check be medically necessary? I'm going to ask my dr about this as well, when the time comes, but maybe someone on here will know?

i remember my first cervical check a few weeks back. o.m.g. was so painful. i need encouragement too haha. subsequent ones weren't as bad as that first one. definitely felt as painful as an hsg.

now, i use that as a gauge to let me know if i'm close to labor.

If your very worried about it, just remember you always have the option of an epidural!

I felt the same way! I promise you it will be fine. I ended up getting an epidural and sleeping through a lot if my labor. Before I got it I didn't know what to do and I wanted to take it back! But now I know it was worth it. You will do great!
