A new mom friend of mine and her husband recently bought their first home. I would like to get them a small gift but don’t know them very well. Any suggestions?

I always like houseplants as a housewarming gift - consider a nice fiddle leaf fig plant or similar https://www.thesill.com/products/fiddle-leaf-fig-1?variant=30408417968233

Do you live near a home goods or a similar store? I just put together a little basket from there as a housewarming gift for my SIL. I put in a couple of hand towels, napkins, hand soap, olive oil and sea salt.

@LadyDi: I love that idea. I don’t need an excuse to shop at TJ Maxx etc
@yellowbeach: I’m terrible with plants so I never think about them but that’s a great idea too.

LOVE houseplants, but if you don't know whether or not they're plant people, nice kitchen towels are always great.

I'd do similar to @LadyDi: . I'd get some place settings, matching napkins, hand towels, oven glove/mits and maybe a table runner.

I was going to suggest a plant as well - something easy from thesill seems like a great idea!

I got both of these suggestions as housewarming gifts (a basket of goodies and a plant) and I loved them. Still have the plant 9.5 years later.

@LCTBQE: I was thinking maybe nice kitchen towels and a nice hand soap for the kitchen. @Ajsmommy: maybe I need to go shopping for myself too lol we don’t have matching place settings and table linens I love dishes but I’m not good with linens etc

Plant is nice! Or nice champagne and a couple cute / unique champagne glasses is my go to.

I stink at plants so wouldn’t want one as a housewarming. It would stress me out! I’d love fancy soap. Molton Brown is my favorite.
ETA: also fancy olive oil/vinegar is a nice change from wine or champagne

Another cute idea is a personalized Christmas ornament celebrating the new home, etsy has lots of options.

I always buy new homeowners one of my favorite books, At Home by Bill Bryson. It’s a history of the different rooms in houses through the ages. It’s a very cozy book that makes you appreciate being home.

I usually put it in a gift bag along with a bottle of moscato, a gift card to my favorite local restaurant, and a letter that mentions some of our favorite parks, activities, etc. if they’re new to the area.

I just bought our new neighbours a Yankee Candle in the “Home Sweet Home” scent

We usually bake banana bread for new neighbors. Or nice olive oil/EVOO or champagne with a festive bow. Or a pretty candle.
