I need some ideas, ladies! My dad really likes trying different beers and liquors. Last year, we got him a chocolate liquor sampler (it had dark chocolates, each contained a different booze). He really liked that, but I want to give him something different this year! Any suggestions? Ideally under $50.

Hm I was going to suggest a beer making kit. Maybe keep an eye out for deals? Do you have microbreweries near you? We have tons and a lot of the beer stores allow you to mix and match your own 6packs.

@regberadaisy: Oh, I do know of at least one local beer store that allows you to mix and match. Maybe I should look into that! I think you can do that at Whole Foods too, right?

My stepdad loves beer and last year my mom bought him a bunch of local beer he had never tried before. There's also beer of the month clubs, or tickets to tour a local brewery (if they charge).

@Leialou: I was thinking of a beer of the month club, but they seem so expensive, boo!!! Maybe I'll have to go the local beer route and get an assortment for him or something.

What about a prepaid multi-brewery tour? I know our city offers them....includes transportation!

@Adira: Unless he has mentioned making his own beer, I wouldn't do that. I know DH loves craft beer, but has NO desire to make this own. Plus it is pretty pricey if you really get into it. My Dad is always asking for stuff for it for his birthday and Christmas.

@Adira: What if you just put together a basket of fall stuff? A bunch of different seasonal beers, then snacks to go with it. Maybe a couple fun new mugs?

I asked DH, who is a big time beer geek - he recommended a gift card to a good bottle shop (DH really enjoys the experience of browsing and picking beers) and a copy of the book Tasting Beer by Randy Mosher.

My dad is a craft beer nerd and he really liked his beer if the month club, but yeah it's expensive. There is a craft beer magazine that he gets and likes. Does your dad read a lot? My dad has a couple of beer related books that he likes- history of Brooklyn brewery, one about craft beer in Mass, a beer cookbook (which is funny since my dad never cooks, but our friend wrote that one!). I know my dad would prefer to try new beers, over a new beer gear like mugs or openers.

Do you have a cost plus / world market near you? I think they have a beers around the world gift set that I have seen. I got it once for a beer lover friend but that was years ago.

@Adira: Sorry they are out of stock right now on the website but I bet they are in store but I sort of feel it might be a holiday / xmas thing. If you have a cost plus / world market I think it's worth a visit and definitely ask an employee about it! I always found their employees are super helpful.
