Why are Young girls soooo mean???
I'm sitting next to my 13 yr old sister who is in tears
because her friend told her she couldn't spend the night, buy she later found out that friend now has 2 girls at her house sleeping over and is posting IG pics 
my heart breaks
I have a 4 month old DD and I cringe at the thought of this one day being her..........

@MrsH: Good point. I guess the best thing we can do is model kindness in our interactions (even when we think they're not watching / listening) and insist that our children are kind and inclusive.

We regularly monitor my 12 year old stepdaughters cell phone and saw some very mean texts this winter! Calling other 12 year old girls terrible names. We sat her down and had a very serious talk. I hope we helped her understand how words and actions can seriously hurt others. And SDD is a really good, sweet kid so it was shocking for DH and i!

I feel like social media has amplified all the girl drama issues x100! I'm so thankful it wasn't a thing when I was a kid, things were hard enough. I also dread this for my LO!

@cmomma17: I think social media is such an easy target for kids to say things that normally they wouldn't........I know I was not always a sweet girl growing up and I am sure I hurt a few feelings here and there.....buy now with IG and FB I thin it makes it easier

I feel like we all go through this stuff to a certain degree. When I first moved here and with my English as a 2nd language, I was bullied A LOT! And sadly mostly by girls!

DH and I watched a documentary the other day which tracks a group of teens through a summer and follows all that happens through social media. It was kind of terrifying and I felt very glad to have gone through my teenage years without social media! It is scary to think of our kids going through that, but I find it almost impossible to imagine how much more the world will change in the next 10+ years!

Hopefully in ten years there will be a bit more restraint with social media. I'm trying to keep my daughter off it at least while she's a baby. Only photos of my dogs on my Facebook!
Social media is such a new concept, society hasn't had the chance to curb its over shares yet.

My 28 year old sister has been on the receiving end of this with "friends." Sadly she's known them since high school so it's hard to just end the friendship. She just moved cross-country and knows it'll happen sorta naturally now.

. I think it's AMAZING that you learned a new language-especially one as difficult as English! FWIW I would never know it wasn't your first language based on how well you write! @Peasinapod: we are the same way-I never made a pregnancy announcement on FB and there aren't any pictures of my son. My sister actually just posted one without asking just last week and was annoyed when I asked her to take it down. I want my son to decide if/when he shares his own pictures. Sorry-I know this was meant to be about girls but I feel like it's true for any sex.

I remember reading in a magazine what to do if you saw on Facebook your 6-year-old daughter was invited to her so-called best friends birthday. It could obviously still happen without social media, but then at least you wouldn't necessarily find out.
I really dread my children reaching this stage.
