So, am I understanding that Giuliana and Bill stimmed and did egg retrieval while the gestational carrier is pg with their first baby? I thought the dr just told her that she shouldn't get pregnant for 5 years? Are they going to do a gestational carrier again? I'm confused....

Hmmm....I'm not up to speed but I would guess that maybe they will go the gestational route and would prefer that their babies be close in age.

It was my understanding that she did that so she could freeze the eggs? Before she goes through treatment.

She went ahead and did an egg retrieval because once she started her medicine to keep her in remission she wouldn't be able to do a retrieval because of the hormones. And she has to be on the meds for 5 years so she'll be 42 when she's done at which point the chances would be much lower for a successful retrieval. They still don't know if they will do another surrogate or try IVF for G in when she finishes her meds but they wanted to keep their options open for the possibility of another biological child.

From my understanding she wanted to retrieve the egg NOW because during treatment she wouldn't be able to retrieve them and if she wanted to have a baby via gestational carrier anytime soon, she wouldn't have any eggs to give if she didn't get them NOW. I think that's what they said...or at least that's what I got from it.
Anyways- can't wait to see baby Rancic...they've been through HELL and back:'( -
They want to retrieve her eggs now, before they get older, and they are going to freeze them. After the 5 years, she can try to get preggo herself or use another carrier.

@Mrs. Jacks: I would be horrified since I have a minor obsession with Giuliana and Bill but since you are busy.. You know, saving lives and raising two kids, I'll give you a pass : ) But if you need a guilty pleasure they have a reality show on the style network.

@Mrs. Jacks: Giuliani is a host on E! News and does things like red carpet interviews and fashion shows. Bill Rancic is her husband. He's a real estate developer and won the first season of The Apprentice. Giuliana has been very public about her infertility struggles (a miscarriage and failed IVF) and then recently she had a routine mammogram before another IVF attempt and was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36. She ended up having a double masectomy and is not advised to get pregnant for 5 years but they are now expecting a baby through a surrogate. They are just really sweet people with a heartbreaking but inspiring story.

I'm obsessed with Giuliana and Bill! I cry every single time I watch. Like was said above, she has to be on Tomoxifan for 5 years and cannot conceive herself. They are looking into using a carrier again. (She did IVF twice and then before the third is when she learned about the breast cancer.)

I don't really have any info on the egg retrieval but I just wanted to say that I love love love Giuliana and Bill and literally cried when I found out they were expecting, after such a long, hard road...So happy for them!

Thanks everyone for explaining! I was catching up on G&B via On Demand yesterday and must have missed the egg retrieval plan in an earlier episode...All of sudden they're retrieving eggs after going to an ultrasound with the GC and I was like, "Wait....When did they decide to do this?" Thank you for clearing it up!
