(Not sure if this should go under breastfeeding or supplementing...)
With LO1, it took a few days for my milk to come in and because i didn't supplement with formula, she was jaundiced and dehydrated, and we had to go back to the hospital. I'm determined not to have a repeat of this with LO2.
Any tips/advice as to what i should be doing this time around? Do i still get him to nurse and then give formula? Do i start pumping right away? When i had LO, i really knew nothing about breastfeeding, and only became knowledgeable on pumping and supplementing a few weeks later.
this was us. By that point she was so distraught she wouldn't take a bottle from us. When the ER nurses gave her a bottle she guzzled down 3oz in no time flat. By the time we got home she guzzled another 3. That experience made us both completely comfortable with supplementing.
I KNEW something was wrong but everyone kept telling me "your colostrum is enough! Just put her to the breast!" I think it's a dangerous message that gets overgeneralized and applied to too many women in too many different situations.
I will be much more firm and listen to my intuition the second time around.
