I saw a chair on CL for 195. Upholstery will cost 350, not including fabric. I'm budgeting 700$ max for this project.
Or...I could buy a wingback rocker from PBK for around 800 and not have to hassle with it, just buy and ship.
When I look at the big picture, it freaks me out to spend so much money on a chair! The money isn't really an issue, but I want to make sure it's worth it. I've read mixed reviews on gliders/chairs for nursery. In your opinion...

Personally I would just spend the $800 for the new chair. That extra $100 would be totally worth it to me to not worry about the trouble of dealing with buying used and then having work done on it.

I am TOTALLY not crafty, so I would definitely get the new chair. But if you're good at stuff like that and enjoy doing it, it could be a fun project!

Haha, I wouldn't be doing it myself...but, I am glad to see the opinion of others. I would have to go pick up the chair, get the cash out of the bank, pick the fabric, wait a few weeks to have it done, hope i like it--all to save a couple hundred bucks. And, it isn't a glider, just a chair. Trying to decide if the couple hundred would be worth it.

Have you checked out Buy Buy Baby? I ordered mine from there and you can use their 20% off coupons to buy one. I got the Little Castle Blake glider for around $370 with the 20% off. With the Little Castle brand they don't up-charge for picking custom fabric.

If the chairs are similar in style then I would definitely save the hassle and buy a new one.
~$200 for a used chair seems pretty expensive to me too!

@mrskc great idea! I have a 20% off too. Do you know if they ship? There isn't one where I live, but I will be visiting Dallas in a couple weeks are there is one nearby.

I don't know if it's the style you are looking for, but we went with the Klaussner Lacey glider (and ottoman) . . . it is a modern looking upholstered glider (it is available in colors other than the grey). I think the glider and ottoman were approx $650ish?
p.s. it is available for order from BRU (no pic on web site, but tons from google search). and they deliver.

I got a used glider and had new cushions made by the company CJ's Cozy Cushions (online ordering, custom made). They came out perfectly. If you're looking at a used wooden glider style, I highly recommend them - I think I paid about $150 total and had special requests that upped the price.

If it's not a glider, I definitely wouldn't bother then...I feel like the "glider" aspect is an important one for the nursery!

I have the PBK Wingback rocker and looooove it. I did prefer my glider, but I went for a cheaper one and it broke, plus I didnt love the look. I went with the rocker becuse its classic and we ca use it in the living room when its done in Livs room
ETA: Heres the thing-I didnt think a glider was necessary, so I did no research into them. When I was still in teh hospital using that one after my c-sec, I knew it was vital (for me) so DH and I went online and bought a sleigh glider off of Amazon for like 150 bucks, figuring if we hated it, we werent out much. We loved it, but like I said, it was cheap and broke about 2 months ago. Now that Liv is 10 months old, I think the rocker will be fine as opposed to the longer gliding motion of a sleigh glider, so we went with the PBK one.

@lydg: oh and FYI - that glider takes forever to make. Mine took 8 or 9 weeks to get to me, so if you are going that route, give yourself PLENTY of time.

I didn't have a glider in the nursery and we managed just fine. If the chair has some kind of pedigree, then I'd get it reupholstered, otherwise, I'd get something else.

We have DH's great-grandmother's rocking chair in the nursery. It was in really rough shape and I totally refinished and reupholstered it myself. I think I maybe spent $60 on materials?
I honestly don't use it enough to justify $800.... holy geez. $60, yes. $800, no.

I love my glider. It's sooooo comfy, and it gets a lot of use. Especially when LO was a newborn and it was late at night. I have trouble sleeping after waking up, but I would keep the room dark and rock her in the glider while feeding her and it kept me nice and sleepy.
But every baby is different. One of my friends went through a lot to get her glider, and then her LO ended up not even liking it.

@lydg: I think they can deliver... not sure the cost if you're out of town. I bought mine in a city that's about a 2 hour drive from where I live, and my DH and I are planning to drive back to pick it up. It takes 9-11 weeks for it to come in, if you pick out custom fabric.
