I'm going to a bridal shower. They have registries at 3 stores, but at 2 of the stores there are only 3 items on the registry (a pot holder, an oven mitt, coasters). At the last store almost everything has been purchased and what is left is expensive items like furniture. If it was for the wedding I would give a check or gift card, but I feel odd giving one of those for a shower. What should I do?

Do they have sets of things that you can add to? ie if they put a dinnerware set can you add like a creamer & sugar from the matching set?
Have they lived together before? If not a "housewarming" basket might be nice? Or even a "kitchen" basket. What do they like to do?

I would go off registry then and do something fun! I always like gifting in a theme, you could do like a cute apron with a cookbook and you could buy the potholder/oven mitt to go with it.

Maybe a box of spices from Penzey's or similar place. It's my favorite go-to off registry wedding gift.

I really like getting something specifically for the bride. Philosophy has a great "bridal" package of body products. I was gifted one at my shower, and I thought it was really lovely. I'm attending a shower for a very close friend in about a month, and I'm gifting her a "Mrs. ____" robe.

I would give a gift card from one of the stores she registered at. I've gotten those at my shower.

I ditto the bath set! I got some and thought it was just so fun. You can also throw some wedding themed nail polish

A friend of mine got me an apron from Anthropologie with "Mrs. Mylastname" embroidered on it. I love it!!

I'd get the pot holder, oven mitt and coasters and add a gift card to it all.

I'd look at the other things that they registered for and see if there is any pattern that jumps out at you in terms of what they are looking for. I also love to give gifts on a theme. Pretty linens are also always nice.

I received a gift card for a spa at my shower--that was lovely! or you could go semi-off-registry: maybe a cookbook to go along with the pot holder and oven mitt that's on their registry since that fits a theme?

@mrs. 64: gift card to a restaurant. We got a couple and we loved it after the wedding high wore off. It was nice to go out to eat and not worry about spending money.

If you still have time, order something personalized from Etsy! They are always a great hit. I like to give etched wine glass, mugs or aprons!

I try to give personalized gifts with monograms or the bride's new last name.... but then you have to be sure she's taking his name.
