What is all the hype about this game? I heard the sales from this latest edition has surpassed $1 billion and it was just released this week! I never played any of the Grand theft auto games because its seems like its violent for no real reason. I wonder why people are going crazy about it

Believe me I don't understand it either. My DH plays GTA. But I'm so happy the game came out while he is super busy with this school year so he is not worried about getting it. But I will probably lose him this summer
He used to make me sit down and watch while he took out his 3 different girlfriends, killed a whole bunch of people, and lifted weights. Yeah, I watched once. That game is disgusting! No comprende!

Haha. I was talking to a support guy today who was telling me about it (we were waiting for a phone to reboot). He said it's just amazing and he will never have to have another game again. I don't really know what the big deal is but everyone I know who is into these types of video games is all over it. My husband says the graphics are super cool and there is just so much to do in the game, it's something you could play for a very long time.

I played a little bit of GTA 3 and it was a ton of fun. You can make the game your own... you don't have to kill people. I had more fun in the open-ended mode of the game than in the missions.

I played the original GTA games but refuse to play this one, one of dh's friends told him one if the new features is being able to just grab any woman off the street and have sexuals with them. Isn't that considered rape? Besides that there was this video on I funny that made me laugh a bit
Eta: I am wondering if that is true at all because I am not finding any supporting evidence online
either way, I don't get why people are so excited.

@mrsjazz: Almost all video games involve killing... think about all those poor Goombas in Super Mario Brothers!
I did have my first (and last) experience with a prostitute when playing GTA 3! It restored my health to 100%... which is ridiculous, my health should've gone down afterward.

Dh was super excited for it and pre ordered it and waited in line to get it. Big eye roll at that. He says the same things others do- there is so much to do, the graphics are great... I can see how technologically its pretty amazing, but last night I watched for a few minutes and he was playing a video game, making character smoke weed and watch TV.
Meh. He doesn't get that excited about games usually. But he's going to either make the dialogue pg or not play when the baby is awake!

All I know is people are going nuts for this game... I think the only "killing game" I was ok with was the really old school mortal kombat because it wasnt simulation of real life and the characters were so fake

We have a "no violent video games" rule in the house, now that DD is here. DH can play on headphones when she's asleep and in another room. He hasn't gotten GTA5, and I'm not sure he will get around to it - he hasn't touched his video games she's been born.

They're really fun games, and this one is basically everything the other ones were and more! The huge, open world is probably the main draw (same reason why Fallout 3 and Skyrim are so popular). There is SO much to do in this game! Drive fancy, customized cars, go scuba diving, fly a helicopter passed sky scrapers, go hunting in the woods, and sooo much more. I only wish they had released it on PC... we'll probably still end up buying it for PS3.

I heard there was one scene that looks like a rape scene but the makers of the game clarified that its not intended to be a rape scene and is instead a cannibal attack..

I love GTA. Helps me get my aggression out. I'm also very short tempered though.

@pui: Oh, I really like the open world concept. Maybe this will be a Christmas gift for the dude. I have a feeling DH will spend 90% of his time hunting in the woods, though.

I am not sure Id like to stumble upon a cannibal scene OR a rape scene.That being said, I've played some of the old GTA's and they are easy to get sucked into. But I was in my twenties, I can definitely see where it is inappropriate for younger children to be around.

I don't get it at all, and I am so thankful dh rarely, rarely plays video games and when he does, it's sports-related or rock band, haha! We have a Wii and a PS3, but we mostly just use the PS3 for Netflix and watching dvds. I use Wii more than he does for working out, haha (love Wii Zumba!)

I think I must be weird because I actually love watching DH play games like this. We have GTA 3 and Vice City and I could watch him play them for hours. We probably won't get 5 anytime soon since it's so expensive, but I've been bothering him to get one of the older ones that's newer than what we have so I can watch him play that.
I don't really like playing it myself, I'm more of a survival horror person.

Oh man my brother and DH are soooo into it. They like the open-ended part of it more so than the missions as well. I played GTA when I was younger, but meh I'd rather read a good book now. Nerdy I know!
