haha I thought this was a post on classes on how to be a good grandparent!

To answer your question, no.

No none of our parents took a class like this, but really only my mom sees the kids on a weekly basis and is the only one to watch them. She is up to date so it wasn't needed at all.

I think it would be really tricky to gift this to them without offending them. Are they going to be a regular caregiver, if not I might not even risk the fallout of signing them up. IF they are I would mention it first that your friends said her parents really enjoyed the class and see how they respond. If they seem interested then I would gift them the class otherwise, I would skip it.

My MIL took the class and really enjoyed it! Said it was a lot of fun and learned a lot of new stuff.

I suggested it to my mom because she kept saying she wanted to be involved and I thought she'd enjoy this (plus I thought she'd get a healthy dose of "this is not your baby, respect your child's wishes in her parenting), but she started crying and saying I don't trust her and how could I and she would never hurt my baby (yet she argues with me about the AAP's recommendations on back sleeping and tells me what I'm doing is "stupid") and said she'd never been so offended in her whole life. She asked if my SIL made my MIL go and i said YES!!! And MIL enjoyed it!!!

Soooo...it could go either way =P

My parents would laugh in my face, they raised three children but my mom's really in tune with modern standards as she's a kindergarten aide.

But I totally understand, sometimes the information coming from another party seems more "neutral."

@grizz: Aaaahhh, I see. I would definitely have them take the CPR class and this might be a great way of approaching the class and getting them to take the one you would really prefer. I am glad your DH is on board too. Good luck!

Grizz, does your MIL have a friend she could take? Or could she take her mom and make it a girls' thing? There's no way I could ever get my dad to go to something like that, but I don't think he'd ever actually change a diaper, seeing as how he almost never changed ours! Turn it into a girl's thing maybe?

that's cool - we don't have anything like this but it'd be something to consider if we did. If my mom lived in the area I might have invited her to come to the baby care class with me, as she could probably use a refresher. I'm sure she'll learn fast though when she visits.
