Where would you guys sleep if you offered up your bed? Is it pretty inconvenient for them to get a hotel room if they really need a comfortable bed? I wouldn't personally if I were staying at my own home but have been allowed that comfort before by friends who went out of town. It was very much appreciated but I felt a little weird at the same time!

We have an unusual guest room in that it's a walk through to DD's room (very old house) so we always offer up our room to guests. We only ever have FIL stay so it's not a huge deal but I wish we had another room besides our own to offer.

We don't, but we have 2 guest bed options (1 queen and 1 full) and don't often have guests who would need our king over those options. My MIL always gave us her bed when we went to visit because it's a king and the 3 of us could sleep more comfortably there than in her guest rooms (2 full size options).

I'll be honest, it always made me a little uncomfortable, though not enough not to sleep there!
It's not an issue of cleanliness - - it just seems so intimate to sleep in someone else's bed.

How pregnant is your SIL? I've slept on a pull-out at 7 months pregnant and it was NOT comfortable - my hips were in excruciating pain for a few days, even after we were back in our own bed (we slept on our own pull-out during Hurricane Sandy when we lost power because we had a wood burning stove downstairs). So depending on how pregnant she is, I'd probably offer it. Otherwise, no, I would not offer up my own bed to someone. Like others have said, to me, the bed I share with my husband is kind of sacred and too intimate to be sharing that space with someone else, no matter how well I washed the sheets!

I would offer for a pregnant guest since it wouldn't really set a precedent for future non-pregnant visits. Otherwise, no.

I offered once to my parents when they were going to stay at our house to watch Xander while we were at the hospital having Logan, but thankfully they didn't take me up on it! I doubt I'd offer it to anyone else unless they were doing me a huge favor like that.

I don't know.. Never had a situation come up like that! I want to say no, but in your case, I guess I would... But then again, we really can't b/c we bed share w/ DD.

I'd push for air B and B or a hotel. Our max capacity is two in the guest room on the full bed. Three is pushing it if someone wants the couch. Past that, it's not fun for anyone and I just won't give our bed up unless we won't be there.

We have not, it weirds me out for some reason.

@HappyBaker: Oh boy! you're like us- willing to sponsor their stay! It's not the most pleasant phone call since they both parties think the bed should be theirs, but I suggest letting each couple know the kind of space you have available up front and then whoever gets their first gets the bed. Both of our dads ended up staying with us last weekend. My dad who is older by 13 years than FIL got the guest queen because he arrived a day earlier. Both gents knew an air mattress may have been in their future though.

ETA: I don't know if pregnancy trumps age for a bed.

I never offer up my bed to guests. To me, my master bedroom is mine and DH's private, intimate space. It just seems weird.

Actually, we are tonight. We only have two bedrooms, so we kept a queen bed in the nursery along with my son's crib. So when guests come over they sleep in our room and we sleep in the nursery. A little weird, but better than them sleeping in the same room as the baby. My son just outgrew the bassinet and started using the crib, so this will be the first time we try this but I think it'll be fine. We'll put on fresh sheets and get our clothes for the next day set out in the nursery.

@JenGirl: and what about "toys" in your drawers or "gel" in your bathroom? If you don't have this stuff NBD obviously, but for me I'd have to round up some things and hide them! Who doesn't snoop a little when given the chance?

We have two queen guest beds, so we never offer up our own queen bed bc it's essentially the same. The one time we actually slept in my MILs bed was this past weekend when I was pregnant and she has an exchange student staying in her only guest room. There's no way I could have slept in her couch like we normally do when she has her guest room full.

I don't offer our bed. It's just weird to me. Honestly, if you're full, you're full. I personally think they either need to deal with the accommodations you provide or get a hotel.

Who committed to coming first? I would give the extra bed to that couple, and then tell the other one your guest room is already taken, but you're happy to book them a hotel. I can't imagine someone arguing with that without seeming really immature (although I guess that's still possible ) I can't really imagine offering up my bed, and if someone I was visiting offered theirs, I would NEVER accept. Pregnant or not -- I'd just get a hotel!

My best friend and I slept in our bed the night before my wedding! Dh was w his bffs at his parents.

Otherwise nope, never!
