Aka 6 months birthday party. I didn't know this was a thing until I saw someone do it on Facebook and while searching for 1st birthday shirts for T's first bday there was a "1/2" option (along with ONE, TWO, THREE etc printed on the front of the shirt) on one I liked.
Is this common for you?

not an actual party, but I usually make a paper crown for my babies when they turn 6months and we give him extra kisses that day

No, I posted her monthly pictures and we said "YAY we survived the first 1/2 year" but I didn't do a party. I think that seems extreme?

We might do a half birthday this year, because my inlaws will be visiting and my son doesn't have the opportunity to have both sets of grandparents around on his birthday or Christmas.
For us, it's not about the gifts, but having as much family together as possible.

not for 6 month old but we might do some half birthdays as kids get older since actual birthdays are very close to Christmas

I don't think I'd have a full party, but I might acknowledge it. Like maybe they get an extra scoop of ice cream that day or something lol.

Nooooo! I mean, sure, an extra scoop of ice cream or something like @pui said is fine. But I would not have a party! But I'll add that all of my and DH's family lives nearby, so it would never be a situation like Looch mentioned where they were missing other holidays with them.
This does sound like something my DH's sister and mom would like. But then again, MIL thinks someone should throw her a grandma shower since SIL and I are both having our second babies in the fall, and was also quite upset that I would not participate in a sprinkle (that IMO was more of a full-fledged baby shower from her description of it) for my second baby boy in a year and a half. She is all about finding any reason for a gift-giving party. I think that's basically my problem with this idea, too easy for it to fall into gift grab territory.

A friend of mine celebrated a half birthday party for her daughter with a pool party (6 and 1/2) because her birthday is in December and she was never able to have a pool party. But this means she doesn't get a big party come December. We have a summer baby so I don't think I would do a half birthday party because too many holidays going on at her half birthdays.

I have had fun with the preschool age and up kids that I take care of doing a few silly things for their half birthday but not an actual party or even anything that involves money really. Serve lunch on half a paper plate, maybe bake half a cake with 4.5 candles etc. Never anything formal and really only when we actively thought about it.

1/2 Bdays are fun. I am going to start celebrating these more. Life is short and unpredictable any reason for cake and silliness is a good one IMO. Unless my LO has an inconvenient birthday (summer, winter break) the 1/2 bday celebrations will be very low key and family only.

No but we had another gathering on lo's 18 month bday and the person who brought dessert had them write "happy 1 1/2 birthday" on it, lol. The party wasn't for her 1/2 bday though.
When LO was 6 months I think I posted a monthly pic and said halfway through the first year or something like that.

I have a couple cousins that do this. They make half cakes for LO too. Which I can't believe!

I think my aunt & uncle sometimes did this for my cousin who has a December 26th birthday. He never got a party of his own with friends at Christmas, and I suppose the halfway point was a nice way of making a kid feel like he got a celebration of his own.
In situations like that, I've got no problem with a half birthday celebration.

My mom used to make a big deal out of ours. She'd make us a special dessert or something at dinner. Maybe a little gift or a "pick any FIVE things from the dollar store!" kind of thing.
For us, no big party, but I'm all about little celebrations at home.

R's half birthday will be a celebration every year - it's Christmas. 
but she won't get extra presents for it and we already have awesome desserts on Christmas anyway.

Will we celebrate this 1/2 birthday? No but, DS#2's birthday is December 27, and if he grows to hate his bday then we will start celebrating the half birthday so he know what it feels like to get a fuss over him without the holidays shadowing over him.

We might acknowledge and celebrate DS's half birthday just because his actual birthday (Dec 28)might get lost in the shuffle of Christmas/New Years. This doesn't mean cake and gifts, but more along the lines of we will do something fun like go to the zoo, have a cook out, go to the beach, etc. And it'll just be us, we would never expect anyone else to celebrate it with us!

Nope. We would only celebrate half birthdays if their actual birthday was at a bad time of the year and we just wanted to celebrate their birthday some other time. Then we might do it on the half instead. But I definitely wouldn't do both!

I have never heard of that before! I mean, when they're young, I guess why not? Def wouldn't want them to think that this is the norm to have 2 birthday parties as the grow older tho!

No way. I think it's really weird and excessive.
I made her a cupcake and a little "It's my 1/2 birthday!" shirt when she turned 6 months... but definitely wasn't throwing any parties.

I have considered throwing a half-birthday party for DH because his birthday is almost always during Thanksgiving break and no one is around to celebrate, but it would be in lieu of another celebration. My sister is considering the same for her boys because their birthday is really close to Christmas.
