Oh my gosh, it has been a LONG weekend. I got a call before lunch on Thursday to pick up Wagon Jr. from daycare with a fever of 102.5. The night before I had noticed he was warm, but in the morning he had no fever so we sent him to daycare. All weekend long his fever went up and down, and finally on Saturday it went down to 99 and stayed there. Phew.
Funny thing is, when we picked up LMW from daycare on Thursday afternoon they mentioned that HFM was going around her room. We were hoping for the best since she didn't have any symptoms or fever, but we basically locked ourselves in our home the entire weekend... Thursday afternoon until this morning. Wagon Sr. left a few times to pick up food or quick groceries, but I did not leave the house once.
The entire weekend Wagon Sr. and I felt malaise-y and achy. LMW was a whiny mess all weekend long. She would walk around just crying. We'd try to offer her everything and she would just turn her head from us and cry. She woke up from her afternoon nap yesterday covered in vomit
and we noticed a few blisters on her hand. Then we realized that her eczema (on that arm) all week had looked different-- blister-y with a few scattered little dots with raised heads.
But this morning the dots were flat and she woke up totally happy-- no whining or crying at all. Still no fever for her and she was acting and eating totally fine. Both kids ate their whole breakfast and were acting totally 100%, so off to daycare they went and off to work we went.
So I'm guessing that we all had a mild case of HFM all weekend... I keep checking myself for blisters, but nothing. And of course all the googling I'm doing comes to the conclusion that it's just a virus, there's no treatment, it's highly contagious, and you just gotta let it run its course, which could be 3-7 days depending on severity. Since we all started getting sick on Thursday/Friday, I'm crossing my fingers that we are all out of the woods!
That was the first time all 4 of us were sick at the same time, and I'm VERY thankful that it was as mild as it was. We all just slept a lot. Our sink (one of those extra wide, farm-style sinks) got completely full of dishes, I think for the first time since we had kids. We ordered takeout a few times, which we haven't been doing lately. We watched A LOT of Bubble Guppies.
I love my kids and I enjoy every single second I get with them, especially as a WOHM I really treasure each second, even this weekend. But BOY did it feel good to drop them off this morning. Both of them RAN in and did not even look back.
Anyone else get HFM in their home? When did you feel like it was ok to send the kids back to school or daycare?
