i like the hand held because i use it to rinse the soap off of LO. but unless there's a specific need for the handheld, there's a lot more choice with the built in. we have a built in for our shower which we really like. looks nicer than the hand held, also.

I like handheld because I find it easier to rinse out the tub/shower.

I like hand-held because I can rinse M's head with it (or wash the dog!)

Ours is both! It's built in but comes w/ a hand held attachment. In our other bathroom, it's hand held, but you can just leave it there and use as a leave in as well.

I def like the function of a handheld to bath my dog & rinse the tub!

Our master bath just has a built in, but we put a splitter on the shower pipe and put both in S's bathroom, WAY easier for dealing with messy stuff (we use it to hose off all kinds of stuff).
