My sister has started talking about my baby shower. She LOVES everything about showers...games, gift-opening, etc. While I definitely want one, I feel people get really sick f them.
I'm considering talking to her about a Co-Ed shower. I was thinking late afternoon-early evening BBQ and invite everyone. Maybe some small games that you wouldn't have to feel obligated to play.
I know it's not traditional, but feel like most would find it more fun. Any thoughts?

@annem1990: My best friend threw us a co-ed BBQ and it was great! The "entry price" was a case of beer or bottle of wine from the men and a case of diapers from the women. It was a lot of fun, very low key, and we all enjoyed it very much. We didn't do any games, just talked and hung out.

If she wants traditional, I would do traditional girls only with lots of games and oohing and ahhing over gifts.

I had one of each - ladies shower that included family and a co-ed shower for close friends/co-workers. Both were fun! Totally just depends on who you want to invite. If you do ladies only though, you don't necessarily have to do silly games!

@annem1990: I had a coed shower for my first and it was great! It was a huge party (also happened to be St. Patricks Day!). We did play a couple games and the guys joined in. They had a onesie making station and I think the guys had more fun with it than the women!

This is what we did for my first. No games, just BBQ, hanging outside. We did open gifts but just let the guys kind of wander in and out rather than making a huge deal of that part. It was perfect

I had two co-ed showers (one family, one friends) and it was great! I threw one as well for my BFF. We opened gifts at both and the men-folk had no issue with that (and did it in a low key way where people just chatted throughout) and for my BFF's we played a short game but made it clear that no one needed to participate (so some people stayed in the front yard and played lawn games, etc.).

Both my showers were co-ed; in general still way more women but other halves and children were always welcomed!

I didn't want a traditional shower, so I asked my Mom to throw me a coed shower. She ended up inviting guys too, but still doing the tea sandwiches and games and making me open presents for an hour. My suggestion is to make a pinterest page with the foods/theme/atmosphere you want and sharing it with her to collaborate on.

We had a co-ed shower for my first and it was a lot of fun! Much more like a cocktail party which is just what I wanted. My mom threw me a small "sprinkle" with my 2nd and it was just immediate family and a few close girlfriends. It was nice but not nearly as fun as the first one!

My friends and I are all on our second kids and we always do a co-ed sprinkle. It's sooooo fun. We basically just use it as an excuse to all get babysitters, drink (except for the mama to be of course), hang out, and celebrate. People usually just bring cases of diapers as gifts since we all already have the majority of baby stuff that one needs.

I had a co-ed baby shower because there are way more guys in my family than women. It was almost like any other family get together except there was pink decor and gifts.
It was so much fun!

Love co ed showers especially when there is a legit meal-DH and I apart enough.

We had a co-ed "Baby-Q" shower with just friends, and it was super fun and relaxed. No games, just lots of good BBQ and drinks. It was a build-the-library theme, and we did not open gifts at the shower. I also had a girls-only shower with family and close friends in my hometown. That was the perfect balance for me. Honestly, I would have missed not having the girls-only shower in addition to the co-ed shower, but that's just me. To repeat PPs' advice, it's your shower, and you should do what YOU want!

I had a coed shower, and I really enjoyed it. It was otherwise mostly traditional, at a bakery, and we played games, but not stupid ones. We did the price is right for baby items which was fun. It was fairly small and family only. We did open presents, but it was both of us doing the opening, not just me. I originally did not want a shower, but it was great.

I had a coed shower and just threw one this past weekend for my sister! So much fun! We grilled in the backyard and played a couple of fun games. The guys got into it!

This is my plan, a co-ed shower during the summer! I'd like to do a BBQ (with alcohol and a fun non-alcoholic drink option) and no opening gifts during the shower. Either that or a pulled pork and mac and cheese kinda deal....I love planning the food for parties, so my mom and I are going to come up with something yummy and fun.

We had a co-ed baby shower and it was so much fun! It wasn't too "baby-ish" - mostly like a big backyard shindig with plenty of food and drinks. People played cornhole, a friend DJ'd music, we had a fire pit going and fun baby-related decorations, etc. We'd do it again in a heartbeat! My husband had just as much fun as I did. We look back on it so fondly.
ETA: People brought gifts, but we didn't open them during the shower. It was totally fine - everyone was too busy mingling, eating, etc!

I had a co-ed shower and had a few games. The men really got into them! I say do it!

If you want co-ed I'd totally do it (and I prefer it) I'd say you know I'd just prefer a more laid back atmosphere with a BBQ and family. I will say the few I've been too have been Diaper showers not full on gifts...if you are okay with that.

That's exactly what we did for my shower because I hate traditional showers. Everyone had a good time.
