I am incredibly lucky to have received quite a lot of hand me downs on baby gear and clothes, mostly from my sister and my SIL. Car seat, bouncy seat, lots of tiny and gender neutral clothes-- I am very thankful! But here is my vent-- I never know what I'm going to get! I'm 36 weeks and my SIL just sent up an activity mat and two bouncy chairs plus more clothes. I had just received a new bouncy chair and activity mat at my shower and I like the ones I picked out better. I really wish they would make a list of what they have and tell me, rather than just surprising me with things whenever they get around to passing it on (we live 5 hours apart so they just send stuff with my parents when the visit). Really, I'm grateful for all the things we won't have to buy, but it's annoying when I read the reviews and select the best XYZ gear, only to then have to decide whether to feel wasteful and keep the new stuff or just accept what I'm given without really knowing much about it. I know, first world problem, quit complaining!
So, my question-- how did you decide what to take as a hand me down and what to buy new? I decided to keep the new activity mat that my neighbor bought from our registry over the twice used (both my nephews) play mat that my SIL unexpectedly sent, but now I'm wondering if I'm just being fussy and it's a waste of $50. Keep in mind, in my situation I know all items are safe (like the carseat) and were stored in reasonably good conditions (both my sister and SIL moved and had stuff in storage for a short while but overall everything is fine.)
Am I just being a spoiled brat and should shut my mouth?
