@Smurfette: Did you know it's only a 2 hour flight from ATL-NAS?

I've eaten there several times. My husband just came back from a business trip there and he can't stop talking about it!

We've been twice (to Atlantis), but it's been years. We've stayed in other resorts, too, but Atlantis was our favorite. Back in the day, Conch Fritters was the place to eat, but I've heard it's not that great anymore. In any case, I'd find actual conch fritters somewhere, since it's almost impossible (and usually illegal) to find fresh conch stateside. I'm sure things have changed since we've been, but just remember you'll be on island time and everything takes a long time. And don't even bother with the straw market. You'll have a great time!

@chopsuey: No, but that makes sense. I think it was 2 hours to St Thomas and Aruba........

Ahhhhh I loooove the Bahamas! We stayed on a really small island in a house trade so no tips for Atlantis, just super jealous!!

Oh, you must try to find the locals practicing for Junkanoo. It might be by the Fish Fry (on the mainland). It's pretty fantastic.

I've ridden by it on a snorkeling boat, but never been there. It looked awesome from the water. I really didn't like Nassau though. I wouldn't even bother going there if I were you, just stay at the resort.

I went about 8 years ago. It was a nice resort, it's pricey when you are there though. I feel like they overcharge for food/drinks/etc.

We went on our honeymoon to the Bahamas. Personally, we hated Atlantis, the one day we attempted to visit. It gave us a feeling that if you weren't staying there, none of the other stuff was available to you. We had an awful experience with Atlantis.

I went years ago... probably close to 20 years ago! I remember it being so fun (as a kid). We spent most of our time at the resort, but did venture out to Nassau for the markets... I remember getting my hair braided and feeling like a princess.

@littlek: This exactly. The hotel was gorgeous and I though the price for the room itself was fair given what a beautiful setting it is. But the prices onces you're there are crazy. I think I paid $8 for a bottle of water!
@chopsuey: The first day you get there I would go into Nassau and stock up on some snack and bottles of water to keep in your room.

DH and I took our first vacation to Paradise Island. We didn't stay at Atlantis though. You'll love it there!!

@MamaMoose: I was just talking to dh about packing water and snacks in my luggage! I drink a ton of water/day!

@chopsuey: omg I was just looking into the Bahamas for Christmas this morning! LOL. DH and I really want to take a beachy family vacation right after DD's first birthday but was unsure because she's still kind of young so not sure if she will be able to enjoy it (and if WE would really be able to relax!). But maybe we will go?!?!? Haha!

yes! we went last year. we were on a cruise so we only stopped in nassau for one day and spent it at atlantis. we had fun when we were there. i don't have too much advice tho since we ate on the cruise ship and only went on the rides. the best ride for sure was the one on the inner tube that goes through the aquarium! so fun!

Ooh! FUN! I've never been there, but the slide that goes through the aquarium looks really cool!

We stayed there about 7-8 years ago. It's really fun, but not the safest to wander outside the resort (although we still did during the day.) I second finding conch fritters. We had fun playing in the resort's water park, and also booked a really fun snorkeling trip. What other posters have said is true: it is expensive when you're there- any dinner you eat in the resort will run you at least $50 a person.

The aquarium is nice. We went on a cruise, so that's all we did there since we'd been to the Bahamas before. Not a fan of the Bahamas though. My avatar is from the hotel.LOL

The beach at Atlantis is pretty rough, and there are lots of drownings. There's some really sharp drop offs, and a strong undertow (and I used to lifeguard). I'd stick to the pools!
