Has anyone ever heard of a childcare swap or done one? Basically, you find a mom in your area who has similar parenting philosophies/etc and similar goals, and if you both work part-time but different days, you swap looking after each others children- so no money is exchanged.
Ideally I would like to work part-time after LO#2, but 2 in daycare would be tight and right now we cannot afford for me to be a SAHM, plus I would like to work at least a little bit.

I'm a SAHM, so I don't do this for work, but I do a swap at least once a week, usually more. LO has a standing swap with two other kids every Tuesday. They go do a different house every Tuesday for 3 hours. Host provides lunch. So, it's kind of like a buy 1/get 2 free kind of deal :). I also swap with friends for any appointments I might have. It's really ideal! I think it would work great for a part-time childcare situation if you can find someone in the same boat.

A friend and I plan to do this, our kids will be fairly close in age and we plan to swap for date nights and once a week or so. No clue how it will work out yet but we have similar enough styles and trust each other enough that I think it should work out fine.

@Weagle: that also sounds great! glad it's working out for you. Not sure how I would even go about finding a mom in my area with a similar situation, but it's worth a shot...
@hellobeeboston: I wish you could too!! It does sound good but not sure of the reality...just trying to think outside the box!
@Mamaof2: It's pretty ideal, but like I said, I have no clue how it would actually end up working out or how I would find someone with a similar situation...but it sounds perfect on paper!!

@NovBaby1112: I have seen people place that type of ad on Care.com before. I don't know if they have any success but worst case scenario you wasted an hour. I would think asking around at any classes your lo is in or at the library might lead you to someone even if the person you are chatting with isn't interested they might know someone and it is an easy enough idea to bring up in conversation. we do this with friends but it's more like a brunch or date night swap. all four of our kids are the same age.
