This happened to me in high school, the way the doctor explained it was that I wasn't catching it over and over, the antibiotics didn't knock it out fully the first time. Has the doctor given you the same antibiotics the each time, or tried different, stronger ones? I had to do a different type because it seemed like the strep I had was resistant to whatever they normally prescribed for it.

Same as @IRunForFun: I was constantly sick with strep throat from about Jr high until I was 20. Then they took out my tonsils finally and the surgeon said all the antibiotics did for me was make me feel better for a short time but the infection never went away. He said my tonsils were badly infected and at that time I was "healthy" or so I thought. Having my tonsils removed was the best thing I ever did! I didn't get sick for about 6 years after that.

Hopefully they can give you a stronger round of antibiotics to knock it out of you. Feel better!

My sister dealt with this; it was awful. She finally managed to kick it, but it took months and months and many rounds of antibiotics. I'm sorry you're going through it

Yes from the time I was 24 till 26 I had it so much. Probably 5 or 6 times a year. Because of my age my Dr never wanted to take out my tonsils, because of my age the recovery is harder. She said they wanted you to have it a minimum of 8 times a year (if I remember correctly). She said by the time I was 26 I would outgrow the issue. I have I guess. I have only had it a couple of times in the last 7 years now.

I hope you feel better soon, I can't image taking care of 3 little ones while sick with strep

I have been getting strep at least once per year since I was a kid. Last year I had it so bad that it came back, and I got pnemonia at the same time and ended up in the hospital. I have been to numerous ENT specialists and they keep telling me that I haven't had strep enough times in one year (7+) to get my tonsils out, and now that I'm older the recovery is much tougher.

I used to get strep all of the time and am still mad that my doctor didn't have me get my tonsils out when I was younger. When I do get sick nowadays, it usually has something to do with my tonsils. But as others have said, the recovery when you're older is so much worse so not sure I want to go that route now.

Yes, I would get chronic bronchitis and strep. It seems to just be never-ending the years I'd get them. Until I started getting the flu shot regularly (even when supplies were low), it really stopped being a yearly thing.

@MUI831: honestly, it sucks, but for me, it was totally worth it.

I frequently got strep when I was a kid, once a month or more! Had my tonsils out and I've had it maybe once since ( and that was over 20 years ago!)

@birdofafeather: I wish they would take mine out! My vocal cords have been damaged by how many times I've had strep and (this is gross and TMI) my tonsils have giant holes in them because they're just destroyed. It seems like now that I'm older, it hits me worse than ever before and I'm sick of it. As soon as the winter hits I get nervous just waiting for when I get strep. I'm glad you were able to get yours out and feel better now!

@alohaorchid: My DH has holes in his too and stuff gets caught in there and forms "tonsil stones" blech.

@alohaorchid: That happened to me too! The ENT said I had so many holes in mine and they were pretty scarred. So gross.

I hope you feel better. I used to be constantly sick until two things happened- I got my tonsils out AND I started eating better and more (not just better but also more!).
