So my coworkers and I are starting Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I know its a series on Stars and I'm excited to start the book. Hopefully will start watching the series.
Is/has anyone read or is watching the series?

Oh my gosh I just started reading this! In the middle of book one now - my MIL gave it to me and she devoured all eight (?) books already. I'm excited to watch the series too, once I finish this first one!

I have the whole series of books! I'm currently re-reading the series in preparation to read the latest book (I'm on A Breath of Snow and Ashes right now). I love them! I've never seen the series, but I hear that it is excellent. I hope you enjoy it!

I've read the first 4 books and seen most of the series. I am behind a few episodes, but will catch up next week when DH is traveling. I really like both the books and the show. And Jamie is HOT.

I've tried reading the books a couple of times now, and get about a third of the way through and realize I'm flipping pages and skimming. I think I've given up - the premise sounds like something I'd really like, but I guess something about her writing doesn't jibe with me!

I have read the first book and watched the first season! Loved them both.
Am reading the second book now and... I dunno. I am not having trouble finishing it, but I definitely don't have the same page turning obsession as I did with the first novel. Maybe because the mystery of who this historical highlander is, or their romance isn't new any more, or SOMETHING, isn't the same? Whatever the case, I just am not as in love with the second book, or the characters, as much as I was with the first novel.
I am excited to watch the second series though and hope they continue the series past the first book because I think I'd be totally into watching the series continue!

I've commented on this thread about the books and the tv series.

My sister got me to watch the TV series and got me hooked. I then started reading the books. The first book was good but the second book was difficult for me to read because there was a lot of history. I wanted to read more romantic drama and more about Jamie and Claire.

I haven't watched the season finale yet, but I'm watching the show! I also really enjoyed the first book, but just couldn't get into the second one.

@.twist.: If you can, push through it! I like the third book much better. I'm not going to tell you why because it might spoil it for you, but trust me.

Ahhh, I love these books, although they admittedly slow down after the first four or so. I still have three episodes left on the Starz show, but I'm afraid to watch them because I know what's coming from the books.

So, I never think this, but the show is so much better than the books! I finished the first book and started the second but couldn't get into it, Claire was really getting on my nerves But I love the show! Esp bc with the show, they can show other characters' perspectives-- particularly in the second part of this season, showing Jamie's side of the political intrigue with Dougal and Collum was really interesting

ETA: Possible **SPOILERS** sorry~
@avivoca: I have about 13% left in the second book and I just don't know if I can go onto the 3rd!? I'm upset they have a daughter. I like my romances childless, apparently. I even get that it's not a traditional "romance"... I can't help it! haha
Wall me with any spoiler surprises you think might incline me to keep going!

I agree, the second book just doesn't have as much going for it as the first. I'm about 3/4 the way through with it. I plan on starting the tv show soon. I can't really see how there can be so many books unless the story moves from Jamie/Claire onto someone else.
