@Andrea: oh nice! who did you rent through? and what brand is the seat?
We have to make a 2 hour drive with LO in a couple of weeks.

@chopsuey119: Enterprise and it is the lightweight Cosco. Where are you going?

@Andrea: We're flying up to Richmond on the 19th! Then driving to Fairfax. So lame. We should have flown into Dulles, but someone okay'd our itinerary -.-

We just did. It was clean but a really crappy carseat. We had to install it ourselves and and it was a huge pain in the behind to do so. There was barely any padding to the seat and it didn't recline very far at all so our baby's head lurched forward anytime he drifted to sleep. He looked so uncomfortable. We rented from Dollar and it was a Cosco seat. We wished we had just brought our own with us.

We have once an it was old and grubby.
You could bring your own... get the GoGo Kidz Travelmate so that it's easier to pull along at the airport. Or just use jumper cables to piggyback it onto your rolling luggage. Then check it in. Some travel bags for carseats come with wheels too I think.

Get the plastic bungee cords, much easier when going through security if you've got a car seat attached to rolling luggage.

We have on two occasions (both from Hertz and they were Cosco seats), the seats weren't the newest or most padded but worked for our purposes. One advantage to bringing your own is that you know how to adjust the straps (we have an Evenflo Triumph). We didn't get instructions with the rentals and luckily the straps were at the right adjustment for LO or we would have been in trouble; rental agency can't provide any assistance with install or instructions due to liability (or at least that's what they told us).

ahhhhhh.. We rented a car from Budget last night and I added a car seat as an extra. :T I'm gonna take some blankets in case the seat isn't as cushy as ours.
Renting the seat costs $26. If we took our own I'd have to buy a travel cover (~40), and it'd be a serious pain in the butt getting the seat through security--we have a Britax Advocate (hugest car seat out there).
Will take wipes and hope for the best!
Thanks for your input!!

This is a great thread because we are trying to decide this for one of our trips!

Did the rental company guarantee that a seat will be available, or is it best effort? I've heard it's best effort and that if you get there, no seat may be available, has that been anyone's experience?
