I love watching Cake Boss and came super close to buying some yummies while I was in Vegas.
There was a crazy wait though so we decided to pass!

Haha, we used to order cakes from the original shop in Hoboken before it was on TV. Since they've gone big, no.

@looch: aww were the cakes you ordered back then super good?

My niece is a big fan. If we're in NYC for her birthday this year I was thinking of taking her and seeing how much a small cake is.

@chopsuey: they were, but they were old school, I don't know how to describe them...like the crushed almonds up the sides and the whipped cream frosting.
I can't imagine that they're remotely the same now.

@locavore_mama: Omg on the show Buddy talks about how people wait in line for HOURS. I can't imagine waiting in line for cake. Haha. Dying to see how their stuff tastes though!

@chopsuey: haha I would get there before they open!
Do they have a mail delivery service!?

They are fine... but not worth the wait. The line for one in Hoboken always wraps around the block.

Yep - a friend lives down the street from the bakery in Hoboken. I've only had biscotti though, I didn't try the cake.

They do have mail delivery, I think.
I haven't had any, but I'd like to!

@locavore_mama: ooh you can order ahead and pick up!
they just added some items that can be delivered too. haha. maybe when I reach my goal weight I'll order some stuff to reward myself

I live in Hoboken and can skip the ridiculous line by flashing my driver's license with a Hoboken address.
I have never had their cake but their cookies are just standard bakery cookies.
I think it's hilarious that anyone would wait in a line that long just to go into a bakery.

Nope, but when Carlos Bakery started to air and Ace of Cakes started to fade out, I was a lil sad.

Agree with Elbiekay...I went once when my 13 year old neice was in town who wanted to go. We went on a Sunday morning on a drizzly day and there was no line.
I was totally unimpressed by their bakery stuff. It's supermarket quality...Hoboken has much better bakeries, like Choc o Pain, which is right down the street.
Haven't ordered a custom cake from them though---I hope those are good, considering that crazy line.

No but I've been tempted on multiple occasions to order something and have it shipped! http://bakeshop.carlosbakery.com/

Friends in NJ have told us that if you place an order for pickup (like a cake) you can skip the line... otherwise it's a crazy wait for mediocre pastries that aren't any better than the ones in the supermarket.

I used to live walking distance from their shop in Hoboken. We got some cookies there once. They were fine but I've had better.
