My son got an Easter basket from both sets of grandparents and us, but nothing too extravagant. Mostly stickers, books, a craft, and a new outfit. Wow- money in eggs? Is this a new thing??

We were discussing this on yesterday. My son received 4 large baskets and clothes. I told my husband that we probably shouldn't purchase a basket for him next year. We are hiding all of the candy from him.
I know some teens who received a few hundred dollars worth of gifts from their parents. This is getting out of hand IMO.

I have definitely seen families go overboard. My parents will likely go overboard with our LOs (I'm Orthodox, so Easter isn't until May 1st for us). We celebrated with DH's parents yesterday, and they got the boys a bunch of clothes and did a cute egg hunt where they filled the eggs with small candies and change. It was perfect to keep it small. We did the same for LO1 at home. LO2 is too small to care, so we didn't do anything for him.

Yes, and I think it's absurd. We celebrate Easter but don't buy our kids anything for it - we do buy some fun Easter candy now and again but don't present it as a gift. Still, my kids made out like bandits yesterday with quite a few gifts - gifts from four different couples including two baskets a piece.

I have friends that are now buying their kids large toys for Easter and I just don't get it. I prefer to leave gift giving to Christmas and their birthdays. We celebrate Easter with a special breakfast, retelling the Christian Easter story, dying eggs and an egg hunt in the days before - but I don't really consider the egg hunts to be gifts.

I think it sort of has, and maybe I'm the Easter Scrooge (or we just have a lot going on with two working parents and getting the house ready to sell), but we didn't do or give lo anything for Easter. We aren't religious, and she's only 14 months old. LO participated in her school's egg hunt, but that's the extent of our celebration. Maybe when lo is older we'll be more into but I'm fine just enjoying the day together without giving gifts she definitely doesn't need more toys!

I don't make Easter eggs or baskets for our kids aside from our part in DS' preschool egg hunt.

BUT, they have both sets of grandparents who each got them a basket (first time for my parents) and MIL did an egg hunt that incorporated small gifts like trains/books. My home church's youth pastor gave them baskets of candy.

I don't think any of the gifts or baskets were overkill; but combined -- it's a lot. And too much in my mind for what is a religious holiday in our family.

Yes, I was certainly more intentional about our basket as a result. There was nothing edible. And just a few things in their baskets. I'm really getting over the explosion in our house.

Not here. I bought LO some fancy chocolate eggs and called it good. We had a big party with family yesterday, but no one brought him anything else, nor was I expecting them to. It was a lot of fun, probably more so because there were no gifts.

Nope. We have the small Easter basket from PBK and if it doesn't fit in the basket then she doesn't get it. I think I spent around $15 on everything? And luckily the grandparents each just gave her a book.

No. Gifts have to fit in the basket. I spent about $20. Her grandmothers sent her a card and a small basket. I didn't see anything on social media that made me think Easter is the new Christmas.

No gifts at our house. We color eggs and have an easter egg hunt in the back yard - the basket is used for that, not gifts.

I kind of overdid it this year but not nearly as much as some people. My mom sent two stuffed animals and my mil gave her something she had bought anyway but held onto for the next holiday/time she saw my lo. I bought a $40 playmobil set because I wanted to stuff the eggs with pieces of that instead of candy, she then had a basket of stuff but again a lot was stuff I would have bought anyway this spring like bubbles, sand toys, a couple of t-shirts, sunglasses etc.

I realized I spent way more than I expected but I wanted to buy decent versions of things and not stuff we would throw away next week. I also wanted to get away from being candy centric. It feels sy hard to balance this stuff as a parent! It's fun to have a few days a year where we can call it an exception and "spoil" our kids. At least for us, part of it is we try not to buy much between holidays aside from needs like clothes and shoes.

I'm definitely not looking forward to a more materialistic Easter. I mean the Easter basket and egg hunts have nothing to do with the holiday already.

I hAve seen posts about this in every mom group I'm a part of! This was the first year we did a basket for DD (she's 2) and she got 5 baskets!!! One from each set of grandparents, one from each of her aunts and ours. So ridiculous and unnecessary, but we appreciate people love her. At least 2 of them came via mail so I stashed it away for later.

I'm kind of guilty of going overboard...but I also don't buy toys throughout the year except for Christmas, Easter and their birthday. I also put stuff they need in their Easter baskets like summer shoes and books!

We asked the grandparents to scale back so they only got baskets from us this year. And eggs never have money in them. Just stickers and m&ms mostly.

I was surprised to see kids getting gifts for Easter. We dyed eggs for the Easter egg hunt, and bought some chocolate for it. My parents gave her some chocolate eggs. And that's it. No toys or books or clothes. I'd never heard of such a thing.

We celebrate the meaning of Easter so nothing from us. She's 3 and even when she gets older I will not be doing gifts. She had egg hunts at her preschool and church and got little toys and small candy in them and called it a day.

I'm surprised and saddened at how commercialized Easter has become. I grew up dying eggs and that was about it. I also might be in the minority but getting 'necessary or small' stuff in their basket is still getting a gift. And as they get older and year after year, they're going to expect gift baskets and it will fuel the commercialism part of it more.

Not the new Christmas but goodness gracious they got a lot of chocolate! It was our first Easter back in England and my three-year-old got nine big chocolate eggs with assorted candies, plus a huge basket of chocolate figures, chocolate eggs and small eggs absolutely stuffed with sweets. My eight-month-old was gifted five big eggs with candies, a stick of marshmallow characters and a chocolate bunny. Wtf is he supposed to do with all that? Everyone suggested my daughter eat her brother's too, on top of her own stash. And I got major eye roll when my family asked if the baby could eat regular chocolate or just white and I said neither.
I was honestly shocked at the amount of chocolate given to each kid.
