Strawberry picking is coming up in the next week or so and I think this would be something my kids would really enjoy doing! We've never attempted it though, so I was curious to hear from some of you who may have done this before. Did your LO enjoy it? How old were they?

We did strawberry and blueberry picking last summer, when LO was about 20 months. Strawberry picking was not that interesting to him...the plants are low to the ground and you really have to look for the berries (although that might be because we were at the tail end so we had to look harder). Blueberry picking was fun for him, he could just sit by one bush and pick them off.

We took E strawberry picking when she was not quite a year old, and last weekend at 22 months. Both times she enjoyed eating the strawberries as we picked, so really it's a matter of your expectations :). She was able to 'pick' a berry with help from us to break off most of the stem, but mostly she was just eating them straight out of the container
. I did offer to pay them more for what she'd eaten (since the farm we go to is by weight of what you picked), but they declined and joked that maybe they should just weigh kids before and after.

We went blueberry picking last year when he was like 18 months or a little less. He had fun but ate a lot- some out of the dirt.

LO & I went strawberry picking last month when she was 18 months! She LOVED it! It was the start of the season so there were lots to choose from. She was really into it.

We go every year - they love it but they also like to pick ALL the berries, even the ones that aren't ripe

We went blueberry picking last summer when he was 1 and he ran around and ate a bunch of berries, though I don't know if he "got" the picking part. We're going picking this summer and I think he'll really be into it now!

We went when DD was 3 ish, and she was meticulous. She wouldn't stop. She wanted EVERY berry. It was fun, but intense hahaha DS#1 was also there, and he was less interested, he was 18 months ish (if I'm thinking of the right year, if I'm not then they were a year older hahahah)

Oh yeah, we go multiple times each summer! The berry picking season is short here and we can only go on the weekends, so it’s usually pretty busy at all the farms. We’ve gone strawberry, apple, blueberry and raspberry picking. LO gets her own pint container which is she suppose to fill up, while I do the real picking – of course for every 1 berry that makes it into her pint container she just eats about 10 berries while we pick, and I just give them a few dollars extra at the end to cover what LO ate!

We went strawberry picking at 2 and she had fun. We helped pick stuff out and she pulled. Everyone eats as they go so the pints are more than if you bought one from inside the store there.

We went berry picking on vacation when DS was almost 2, and he loved it. It was in a forest so he couldn't get close to most berries, but he did get his hands on a few!
Now we go to my parents' berry patch - they've got strawberries and gooseberries and raspberries, so there's something all summer.

we haven't been but are definitely going this year! i know the kids will love it. we've been apple picking in the past.

We have gone every year. LO LOVES it, its one of her favorite things. She discovers about halfway through each visit that she can eat them and makes a total mess. I highly recommend carrying wipes with you.

I took my daugther for the first time when she was 2, she loved it. She mostly ate while I picked since she was squishing the strawberries while trying to pick them and that didn't suit her neat freakish tendencies. I suggest bringing a bottle with water to wash them so she can eat while you pick. Another couple brought a spray bottle to wash the dirt. All in all, the farms are nice because they usually have other attractions for kids (hay piles to climb, animals to feed, etc.)

I took my son when he was 2, and he wasn't really into the picking. He liked walking through the fields and eating what I picked. His favorite part of the farm was the play area they set up for kids. There was a sandbox and lots of outdoor toys. He could play there for hours!
