I thought once you had hand foot mouth disease (HFMD) you generally didn't get it again but my LO had a bad case in Sept and now has it again (UGH!). The dr. said that there are multiple strains of the virus out there so they can get it more than once. Have you experienced this? I am wondering how often my LO may get this.

My DD had it twice - the 2nd time was way worse

I actually just wrote a post about this! Mine just finished getting over her 2nd go at it - her first was a year and a half ago when she was just past 1. It sucks but we were told that it's very possible to get it multiple times. Hang in there, hope you all feel better soon!

My twins had it in July and just had it again a couple weeks ago. They got over it quicker the 2nd time.

HFM first time was AWFUL. 2nd time the doctor was even hesitant to diagnose it because it was so mild.

Dd has had it twice. First time the symptoms were worse. Second time was milder but she was older and a lot more vocal about her sores so it felt worse. I've had it three times. Once as a teenager and was the worst with sores all down my throat. Second time just a fever after dd caught it. This last time it ran rampant in our house w fevers and sores luckily only in the front of our mouth bleh

Three were relatively mild, but one was absolutely awful. DH and I still say that HFM was worse than the week he spent in the hospital with RSV. It was so bad
