My girls have only been to Canada, which barely counts for us since it's 30 minutes away. I hope to travel internationally with them; but it's just not in the cards financially right now!

My son was born abroad, and has travelled between the countries as well as to countries in Europe and the Caribbean. He's still got a lot of ground to cover, though.
Interestingly, the things I really want him to see are in the US...Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Alaska.

@looch: I agree, I think there are a lot of things here in the US that I want my kids to see and experience but once they are older and can appreciate different cultures I would love to take them internationally.
- We will probably take a cruise when they are a elementary school age but I dont really consider that exposing them to international travel.

Not yet! We are going to Iceland and Sweden this summer though, so we just got her passport
nectarine / 2964 posts
Yes! We live in US, and DS (now 4) has traveled to Toronto (family), Sydney Australia, Iceland, Hong Kong (family), Carribbean, Mexico, Paris, London. We are going to Hong Kong again in 2 months and also to Osaka, Japan too this time. We have definitely cut back more now that he's older... raising a kid is expensive and is spreading our traveling budgets thin...

yes, to seoul at 20 months. the 12 hour time difference and 19 hour flight were incredibly painful.

Yes! My older LO is 5 and has been to 4 continents and my younger LO will visit her 4th continent just before she turns 2.5. There are still tons of places we want to go, and I have no idea when/if we will make it to South America.

Yes, we've taken LO1 to see DH's family in Colombia twice. We will take LO2 before his first birthday, but haven't decided exactly when yet.

Yes, we've taken him to England twice and Vegas twice. #2 might not get the experiences, though, because I imagine traveling with two is harder plus now we need to buy a third seat.

Nope! We really need to take her back to the motherland to meet her great grandmother tho! Possibly next winter...

Yes, my LO is 2.5 and has been to Barbados twice and Costa Rica. Oh and Canada twice, but I guess that doesn't count

Not yet. We're going on a cruise to the Bahamas in November.
eggplant / 11824 posts
Yes, to Turks & Caicos and several islands in the Bahamas. We are going to Italy in June, which will be her first trip to Europe.
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
Only to Canada so far, but I need to go to the UK for work this summer so she'll come too

Yes, to France, England, and Ireland. We will probably bring both LOs back to England in 2018.

We took her to Belgium & Netherlands at 9 months - it went great. This year's trip is to Thailand & Angkor Wat with a few days in Istanbul on the way back... it will be fun to see her really experience the trip this time around! She will be 21 months when we go.
nectarine / 2210 posts
No, she hasn't. Although my parents did take me to Europe when I was a year old.

Yes, to Cancun - it was a 9 hr flight for us even though it sounds close. This year we're taking the kids to Taiwan.

Ha, same. She's been to Canada a whole bunch, but it feels like it should hardly count, because we are less than 5 miles from the border.
We frequently say that it is so dumb that Canada and the US are two countries over here. It would be so much more convenient if they weren't. I once had to cross the border because I made a wrong turn, and the border guard wouldn't let me turn around. SO. DUMB. I was late to daycare because I had to go across the f**king bridge. //rant over
Someday, we will get across the pond with her

DD1 has been all over the world (at least 8 countries I an think of)....DD2's only international trip was the move from Asia to the US. Poor girl is the epitome of second child syndrome - this summer will be her first "real" family vacation (somewhere other than to visit family) and her first "real" trip to the beach - good thing DD1 wasn't old enough on her trips for the girls to really compare notes!

Not yet, because the logistics of it stress me out. Car seats, time zones, pack n plays, etc. Bleh. Our 3 year old is just now to the point where I think she would do great, but now we have a newborn again. Once he's potty trained I'd like to take them to Europe. Until then we'll probably just stick with US travel. This year we already have trips planned to FL, NJ, and TX, so the kids do get to travel a lot, just not internationally

Yes. She's gone mostly to the Caribbean (primarily to visit my family), Central America, and Canada. Her sleep is super wonky, so we have not been brave enough to cross time zones, but that's okay because it's forced us to consider and travel to more of Latin America. She's a creature of habit, but for some reason, she is a great traveler.

Not yet, but we'll be heading to Korea in a few years. And probably a trip to Mexico and/or Caribbean before that trip!
pomegranate / 3983 posts
Yup! With family on different continents it's a must, although the trips get spaced out farther now that we have to pay for 4 flights.

No. Food allergies scare me, and we have only traveled by car (up and down the east coast). We are invited to a wedding in Australia and would love to attend. The logistics of accommodating their food allergies internationally is boggling my mind. Would love to bring them to Hong Kong one day... maybe when LO2 outgrows some allergies.

my guy is 9 months old now - he traveled internationally once at 3 months and is going again at 11 months. Getting his passport and his first stamp were such proud moments for me since i'm a travel addict and travel writer.

Yes! LO turns 1 next week and had been to New Zealand (2.5 months) and the States (11.5 months).

DS has traveled quite a bit - in addition to Canada he's been to Italy, England, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. He hasn't seen much of the US!

Yes, to Turks and Caicos, which was really easy. It was harder to go domestic to Hawaii since it's a very long flight and big time difference.
pomegranate / 3706 posts
LOL I answered "yes but only to Canada." And only DD1 has been there.
We're hoping to take them to Japan soonish, but want them to be old enough to remember it a little. My grandpa had this weird idea kids shouldn't travel before around 12 or they won't remember it. I went to Europe for the first time at 11, and I only remember some of the trip, so I guess he was kind of right-- though I think kids learn plenty from things they may not remember exactly, and we won't wait that long to travel with our DDs.
