DD's lies are becoming increasingly elaborate and she is not even 2.5 yet. I'm surprised! I'll have to reread that chapter in NurtureShock about dealing with lies. When did your toddler start to lie?

I keep waiting for the lies to start, but luckily she hasn't yet. She will be two and a half EXACTLY tomorrow What she sometimes fibs a little about is poop. She doesn't always like to tell me when she has pooped or is pooping (we aren't potty trained yet)

@Andrea: DS is 4 and still hasn't started lying. I'm hoping it stays that way for awhile longer.

I don't have a LO yet but I'm interest to know... Does she lie like she's just making up elaborate stories.. Or does she lie to avoid getting in trouble?

Mavrick isn't talking much, so apart saying he doesn't have to pee (when clearly he does) he doesn't lie. (yet)

@MamaBehr: happy 2.5 birthday! DD used to lie about poops, too!

@MamaMoose: her lie this week was making up stuff up. DH takes her to daycare but I guess she decided that she wanted me instead. So when I was out of the room, she told him that mommy was taking her and for him to stay in the bedroom. Then she shut the door, thinking that would prevent him from taking her. Haha. So she came up with a little plan to enable her lie.
She does lie about taking naps at daycare to avoid getting into "trouble". She doesn't get into trouble but she knows that we want her to nap so she will lie to please us. She has a back story around napping, too, to make it more convincing!

I used to lie, too, A LOT, so I totally get where your DD is coming from. Sometimes, I'd just make up stories, I didn't think it was lying. My mom said I'd also lie about weird stuff, like where I was born and what my name was.

@looch: Re: weird stuff. DD knew her colors but used to say it was another color when I asked her. I didn't think of it as lying at the time but maybe it was!

Haha, I know all about that! I used to lie about things I knew to "play" or get more attention.
